knppel
Police Department Career Fair LSPD shows off its vehicle fleet By Carry Saunders Above: LSPD officers at information stand being consulted over career opportunities in the PD Los Santos, SA HURRAY, IT'S THE COPS! "Sirens, police lights, and screeching tires is the scene I drove up to when trying to visit the car meet announced by the Spicy Hoodlums on the early morning of February 8th." This was how our reporter Robin Zyskowski opened a recent article about a car meet held by the group cited above. Visiting the LSPD career fair, we found some quite significant ressemblance between the events- with the notable difference that the police was there from the very beginning, hosting the event at Vespucci Beach. Furthermore, their "car park"- an underexaggeration, hence the exclamation marks- turned out to be far more impressive! LSNN was toured around and showcased not only conventional Police Cruisers, SUVs and bikes, but also the more sophisticated transport equipment of the PD, reaching from bearcats over helicopters up to the mobile command center of the SWAT-team (to which we provide an exclusive glance inside!) Above: LSPD's forensic experts being photobombed CHOOSE YOUR CHALLENGE ...is the slogan currently displayed on the LSPD's recruitment website. For the visitor, access was not challenging at all, however, and the PD's Public Relations Bureau dispatched an officer to tour me around shortly after my arrival. Our first stop was at the information stand of the LSPD's forensic experts, who provided a detailed insight in evidence gathering to interested visitors (and which will not be fully disclosed here as it might easily encourage criminal elements to develop counter measures). Summed up, these guys go way beyond "Pics or it didn't happen"- Just that no camera spotted you our you forgot to upload epic selfies of your last heist on facebrowser, does not mean they won't find your traces! Above: PD traffic unit mounting up LSPD, license and registration please! Next on the program was a visit with the guys who love me so much they leave notes on my car's windshield wherever I park it, the LSPD's traffic division! In another informative chat, this reporter was explained a little more in detail not only about red lines and how to abide them ( do not park there!), but also about the technical standards in the department's vehicle fleet, recent upgrades (the bikes depicted above are merely a few months old and thus basically brand new, and only specialized traffic officers may use them, to the great dismay of others not in the division) and maintenance of this vast fleet, including how to deal with occuring damages. "They [Vehicle damages, ed.] have reduced quite a lot with the recent changes we have implemented in the department", traffic officer Calvert told LSNN. In detail, these recent changes adapt the pursuit tactics to a much more proactive use of spikes and roadblocks as well as air supervision (we're coming to it next!), opposed to the traditional rat's tail of cruisers attempting to overtake and PIT suspects fleeing in vehicles. Furthermore, he ensured us the PD vehicles- paid by our all tax money, after all- are kept in good maintenance all the time, with daily checks to not have faulty equipment on duty. Above: Police Officer dismounting from helicopter EYES FROM ABOVE Consequently, we next visited the PD's Air division to inspect their aircraft. With an average airtime of three hours in a twelve hour shift, summing up to six daily, it is safe to say that the investment of tax money in this equipment does not come in vain, even if acquisition and maintenance make a big mark in the police budget. As already mentioned above, importance of the division has only increased as of recently with the tactical approach to chase fleeing targets being coordinated by air (opposed to the anachronistic hirarchic method with the highest ranking involved Officer coordinating actions). Sadly a demonstration flight was not possible in the vincinity of the beach with as many palm trees being close by. I sadly forgot to ask them how they moved the helicopters there to begin with! Where the ground vehicles are checked upfront use, the air fleet receives daily maintenance (however, with them being effectively in use day by day, this also goes in line with the general maintenance requirement in the traffic division requiring a technical check before every deployment of a vehicle). On a sidenote to our readers possibly planning their next evade, don't be too certain if you do not spot the remarkable black-white police choppers in the sky, as a Sergeant from the Air unit disclosed to LSNN they'd prefer to use their unmarked black Maverick, due to its much more fluid flight capacities specially in the density of low altitude flights inner city. Besides this, it makes a lot of sense as I personally found it much more intimidating. Besides a sophisticated commando central to gather and manage information, and a tight, but perfectly useful meeting room to discuss applied tactics at a scene, it even contains a coffee maker, so if a scene drags on, don't get hopes they might tire out!
