Husband Exacts Revenge

Hostage Crisis in Pacific Bluffs

BY ROBIN ZYSKOWSKI

February 13th, 2022 - On the morning of February 13th, 2022, a host of patrol officers, SEB, and detectives responded to the scene of a hostage crisis in the Pacific Bluffs. An unidentified male cornered his wife in the bathroom of their second floor condo, in which she had barricaded herself to avoid his onslaught. It’s unsure if she was the one who made the 9-1-1 call, as it was also reported that several gunshots rang out from inside the building.

As I arrived, there was at least ten officers cordoning off the street and the condo building itself with their patrol cars and caution tape respectively. A detective on the scene managed to get ahold of the hostage taker via phone, attempting to negotiate with him and talk him down from his ire-filled craze being unleashed on his wife. All the while, he was joined by the victim’s brother, assisting in the endeavor and offering critical information to law enforcement. The brother divulged that the husband did indeed have a gun, and was able to barricade himself from any oncoming officers. Not only that, but the apartment was set up in a way where it would be a death trap for anyone to try and force entry.

During the conversation, the enraged male tossed furniture, a laptop, and other unidentified debris from the balcony of the condo - it raining down upon, but fortunately missing, the officers below. It seems that the furniture were portions of the barricade that the wife had set up in preparation for her husband’s assault. To add to the complexity of the situation, it was believed that both the wife and husband were under the influence of narcotics.

Seeing that things were getting out of hand, SEB arrived with two full armored carriers of officers, all heavily armed and ready to storm the building. But, just as they were preparing to breach - horror rang out. The husband managed to break through the barricade and push his way through the door, reportedly armed with a baseball bat and screaming about how his wife had cheated on him. Upon realizing, the victim’s brother attempted to storm the police cordon, but was successfully escorted back behind the caution tape without injury.

With time of the essence and an SEB sniper in position, law enforcement stormed the condo. I was unable to ascertain what exactly occurred within the condo; however, not long after, SEB walked out with the wife - alive and well - and the husband in cuffs. Thereafter, I was able to get an exclusive interview with Lieutenant Terrell Watson, the SEB Operations Lieutenant on site. When asked if any shots were fired in subduing the suspect, he replied with, “no shots were fired, but we were able to find empty shell casings on the floor and a multitude of bullet holes in the ceiling”; presumably, from earlier. Instead, they were able to use a Flashbang, an entry device that disorients and blinds suspects.

Lieutenant Watson went on to explain that they’ve had a total of eight other hostage situations within the past two months, especially since the Davis riots in January; all of which had been resolved with the victim successfully rescued. His professional advice, should you become the unfortunate victim of a hostage situation, is to “not agitate your captors, and to listen to their commands. [Law enforcement] will be outside, working on getting you out.”
