Gas Explosion at Vespucci Beach

Los Santos: LSPD Officers responded to a threat of a gas explosion.

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 6:16 p.m., LSPD Officers responded to a call for service regarding a reported threat of a gas explosion at Vitus Street in Vespucci Beach. A threatening call had been made prior to the response, informing local authorities to evacuate Vitus Street Complex Apartment 17. The caller stated that they had a lighter prepared next to a stove with the gas turned on, threatening to blow the complex up.

A preliminary investigation showed that the aforementioned threats were based on truthful information. A 25-year-old resident of Los Santos, Xavier Perera, had barricaded themselves in an apartment with the gas turned on, flooding the apartment. Officers assigned to the Crisis Negotiations Team attempted to reason with Perera, unfortunately, the attempts were unsuccessful. The apartment blew up at one point during the negotiations, causing a large-scale structure fire, which was subsequently extinguished by the Los Santos Fire Department. The scene was taken over by the State Fire Marshal's Office for investigation.

The Department advises citizens to reach out to the State Fire Marshal's Office for further information in case of any inquiries.
