What's the most cringe RP you've ever witnessed?

Still my point is that its possible to have many expertise. Can get why its 'cringe' if not properly developed the character like that.

Its cringe because 99% of the time characters like this are not properly developed. They just magically have all this experience with zero development. I bet you can't name me one person who's done it well. Don't be naive. It's done out of convenience when someone wants to be a jack-of-all-trades and it's just grossly awful in most cases.

To be honest though... given how volatile the RP is on the server, especially if you're not in a faction, you're BOUND to have a wide different set of experiences.

A former character I had? I was not trying to do anything special, I just literally went with the flow. He was first hired by a fishing company, then roped in managing a dive bar, then encouraged to sell cocaine by a faction, then the cops tried to recruit him (clearly they didn't know about the cocaine lol), then a gym tried to hire him since he used to play football in college, then somehow he got roped in some pretty serious illegal shit because he took a hitch hiker near Sandy who happened to be a mafioso escaping the scene of a crime (his faction kept "asking" services of him), and it only ended because I stopped playing him to focus on my main.

This was in just three months ^^'' And the character didn't have any insane background of 25 years in the special forces or anything. He was just a dude who played football in college, got a bachelor's in communication, did some bartending while studying, and did a few odd jobs for a couple years in Austin before moving to LS (he left Texas because his true passion was to become a magician and his parents wouldn't approve, talk about a "super strong impressive jacked up muscle man" lmao).

The only way your character won't end up doing a lot of different things, after a year of development... is either you start in a faction and do the same thing every day, or you just only RP with the same people all the time ^^' If you go with the flow? Boy, you're gonna have a weiiiird character by the end lol. Any character that RPs in a lot of different areas WILL be weird after just a few months 😛

The problem isn't really the fact people might excel at other things than one. That's the way it is in real life too, but the real problem is people thinking it's alright to work 3 different jobs at the time and still have all the time in the world to go party, to do this and that along those jobs and not feeling exhausted by the end of the day, or plain simply just roleplay poorly at portraying their characters having different fields they specialize it. Take the mechanics who become nightclub owners and suddenly know how to manage one as an example, or your favorite pornstars turning professional MMA fighters overnight.

Then you also have your robber/car thief/pimp/drug dealer/scam artist/forger/extortionist/hitman types.

The problem with the jobs thing is that RL, you're working pretty much every day of the week. Here? Some businesses only open once a week, if that much. If you enjoy work-related RP as a way of meeting people and making money, you either wait around twiddling your thumbs or you get another job. As long as you try to have them make sense, so you're not an astronaut-bartender-forklift operator, I wouldn't fret too much about the number of jobs unless it gets ridiculous.

it's funny to read because my character's a heli pilot who signed up for an mma tournament 🙂 i'm sure some people will say the same things you are saying and ignore that i voluntarily play her as poorly trained, not muscular enough, and that she will definitely lose. She just can't say no to a friend and a friend asked lol

problem is most people, esp. on the forums, assume that IF a character does more than one thing, then they re an expert in everything. They never assume: maybe this character can do a lot of things but they're like mediocre or "just ok enough". Instead they not only assume your char's good at everything (even tho they only do 2 or 3 things) but then they invent themselves a world of delirium where your char's also military trained or sth...

but personally I won't start rejecting a coherent IC situation just bc the forum people may think it's bad, and for their pleasure lol. However if that situation is new then yeah, she's going to suck at it... like her upcoming participation in an mma tournament, even though the poor dumb thing trains for maybe 3 hours a week 😄

that's very true though. If you limited every character to one single thing, you wouldn't do a lot of stuff and most businesses wouldn't have employees, there's suspension of disbelief involved. That same char i got who pilots choppers? She had FIVE heliocopter clients in the entire month of January.... if I limited myself to only that activity, tbh I wouldn't do much lol. So since she did bartending in college, she takes bartending gigs to pay for jet fuel and rent, but, mostly, it's also to create new rp connections.
