State of civilian roleplay and portrayal

The new set of rules doesn't prevent robberies nor walls criminals from doing them. They just nudge people towards portraying robberies and muggings realistically. People can still be ambushed and robbed, just not in Venezuela style on the main boulevard of a developed American metropolis. People argue and use real life comparisons, yes there is a crime wave, but the triggers of it simply do not exist in GTA World as we all agreed not to use them. What people do not portray, well not many of 'em is daily gang life.

Robberies, muggings, murders, dope slinging' happens daily, yes but being in a gang actually is far from New Jack City or Top Boy TV show. It's just life. You need money for whatever reason you get them, but usually a single robbery where you score some cash or watches can keep you up and running for weeks. You don't do it every day.

roleplaying in the illegal scene on this server feels like you're just a thorn in the side of all those players who primarily want relationship roleplay. ive never felt like any of the administration team, bar the IFM admins, have any real interest in keeping us around. most seem like they would prefer if there was no criminal charatcers whatsoever.

Why is this so true? I often wonder what it is these people are saying they're missing out on being able to do, yet when I look through their roleplay all they do is just roleplay virtual relationships. It feels like this place is a dating platform at times, my experience in legal factions was just witnessing stupid relationship drama between people who spent hours ERPing with each other.

In my time on this server, I have noticed that illegal roleplay characters seem to be far more realistic and developed than civilians ones. There are a lot of bad illegal roleplayers who just want to dm or chain rob, but illegal rp also has a lot of 1+ ooc year characters that are extremely realistically developed as apposed to civilian roleplay. Most legal characters just seem to be job hopping from one job to another while also driving a very expensive car or the club goers who only wish to get into a relationship, or just straight up parody characters who are very troll characters that are praised for being unique.

What you're saying comes off as mall rats equals all of civ RPers.

Be like like saying all the questionable chain robbers equals all of illegal RPers.

Like everything, you have to know where to look to find pockets of good RP.

And that means digging deeper than the pink sports car brigade, or the child army rocking AK's, shooting people over dumb stuff.

- Stop taking risks

This is happening in literal line of sight of police stations. Officers are being gunned down just for wanting to issue a traffic citation. We're seeing gangs escalating to violence because they're not afraid of drawing attention to themselves, and don't have any issue with killing anyone that reacts to their suspicious behavior, cops being a favorite target. If they're killing cops, literally armed and trained personnel, what chance do civilians stand against the criminal element?

There was the death row penalty...that at least struck some fear into the criminals, now what do you get? nothing lol. That needs to be brought back.

Having seen it as a public defender too many times, the criminal would get a shank flavored CK in prison and be back on the streets with a rapid-fire weapon before the week was done. The Death sentence was in many ways more convenient than other possible sentences, as the problem players typically never had any investment in the wellbeing of their character to begin with.

The moment any penalties were suggested that would carry across characters in any capacity, the idea was thoroughly shouted down by the very same community that would then turn around like clockwork and ask "Why's the city so empty!?"

Its no different for civilians than it is for illegal roleplayers. Its not even really sensible to make the distinction in the first place. For each of those well developed 1+ ooc year illegal character, there's a civilian character as well. They're not the ones grabbing attention with sports cars though, so they dont stand out as much. It doesnt mean they dont exist.

The even mention of an IC punishment carrying across characters should be shot down immediately. We should not be giving out OOC punishments for IC crimes.

LEO factions and the JSA serve to uphold IC justice - not OOC justice. Leave that to the Admins.

And thus, we're back to a death sentence being no worse than passing go and collecting two hundred dollars, essentially being the more optimal outcome over any other possible sentence.

That's why we don't have the death sentence anymore. It didn't work. Worse, nobody is interested in determining how to make it work.

Trying to make any sort of punishment for IC crimes go across characters is one of the most retarded things I've ever heard. There's no way it can work nor should it ever be considered. There will always be people that don't care about their characters and just do the same shit over and over again, but definitely not an excuse to punish the players that do.
