Neutral Characters and the crime rate: What's the point?

One question is whether we are aiming for quality or quantity.  There is an air of celebration around when we hit miilestones...like 600 players online....700...and so on.  If the server cracked down more on low quality criminal RP, it's probably true that numbers would go down.  Would we be happy with say, 300 on at peak time, instead of 600, if it meant better quality?  Personally I think we would be in a good place, and the focus on "high quality RP" might end up being the selling point and main attraction of GTA:W relative to other, competing servers.  So I'd say...let's start the purge now and make it clear that we're about high quality RP, and that if you're only here for cops and robbers, there are other places more suited to that.

Second point - a lot of this is kind of criticising poor quality criminal RP and the high level of crime in general, but you know, a portion of the LEO community actually enjoys the high levels of crime we have.  I can assure you, the moment there are not enough 911 calls, shootings, pursuits and brawls...there will be complaints that it's too quiet and boring.  So if we do purge the poor criminal RP, we'll probably lose those people too.

Meh, that's just the same problem OP has but with the roles reversed.

Illegal RP'ers shouldn't have a 20 page thread shitting on them for wanting to log on and get in to action straight away while giving LEO's the pass because they're the good guys. If certain cops get upset there's not 24/7 action and it stops them from logging on? Good, they're in the same boat as full-time robbers.

Hey guys, this is on Faction Management's radar regarding the unofficial groups issue and the primary quality concerns that have been raised up through the comments section, we are in discussion and should have a conclusion with some changes, or explanations, after the New Years holidays, so within the next 3 days or so.

As for the punishments being too lenient on the server, I've referenced this to Staff Management so they can be aware of the census that has been reached here.

When Faction Management has an update, I'll post it here as well as whatever official channel it'll go through.

Thanks for keeping it civil - there is a lot of good, valuable and constructive feedback here.

Thanks for providing a response! I hope you won't skip over revisiting this decision though, this is really the core of why things went downhill over time;

To many guns and weapons available. Literally people start shootings over petty shit. The server would be more fun if it it was more centered around melee, bats and other weapons. Realistically have a brawl instead of a death squad killing up a block every 15 mins.

Block wipes are absolutely disgusting. You'd be so fucked irl if you did that.

If you drive around LS at around 7-8 PM ingame before the server safe, all you find is bodies, not just in south central but pretty much everywhere except for the county.

They know that due to server limitations they won't get caught, as well as the absence of witnesses and investigation, so they don't care and that is why at least a couple of dozen people die every day, they are cold-blooded murderers when irl one person think twice before doing something like that.

If you make weapons more scarce then you'll also see more robbing squads searching for PF holders. Really not sure how to solve this dilemma.

Restrict illegal groups in how many violent offenses / robberies they can do in a day before having to 'lay low' perhaps? No need to change amount of guns.

That's what the /rob command was essentially supposed to do - it was designed to let staff see if people were robbing in excess, but then groups found a bypass by moving in groups of up to four or five, and taking turns entering the /rob command for each robbery. The staff don't have the resources to detect it on their own.

It still feels like the better solution is to just loosen the restrictions. We don't need crime free zones, we need fear free zones, where people can know running away or using a PF will count as acceptable fear RP. Try to rob them in a wide open street? They've got lots of directions to run, and you can't loot them if you shoot them. Gotta corner them in an alley to make them compliant.

We'd see a massive upward tick in realism, without imposing any additional or new rules while better incorporating fewer existing rules.

Gotta strongly echo this. I don't think this problem is the only reason for this mess, but it's certainly a major contributor 😕 If you turn the entire town into a "crime crazy" area, it's no surprise that the entire town would become a crime crazy area 😞

Should throw that in a suggestion.
