The culture of reporting on this server

I reported someone once and was reported once as well, so we square. Other than that, I don't have a habit of recording my play or even taking screens, plus I kinda stopped caring about quality longer time ago anyway. People are literally told to read the rules and even make examples of them on the application, so the stuff "I am sorry I didn't know..", kinda doesn't fly here. What I see however, are people who are here longer, breaking rules. Usually the same names pop up in report section. I dunno, but a permaban has something Permanent in it's name doesn't it.

One thing I’ve noticed is the pettiness of reports over the past few months. People completely uninvolved reporting a guy who’s game lagged and he hits a pole and keeps going because he thought no one was around and it was a genuine mistake based on their computer components.

Another bit of pettiness I’ve noticed is people uninvolved with a scenario reporting just because they think it’d be funny to get someone punished. For example I’ve seen uninvolved parties reporting others for videos that they’ve seen that has absolutely zero to do with them just so they can get a rise out of someone.

I blame the majority of this on the current cancel culture in the world along with the whole victim mentality a decent amount of people seem to have.

To put it simply? If you’re not involved in the situation just leave it alone. It’s up to the involved parties and not someone with an avenging angel complex.

Even simpler, just don't break the rules to begin with.

There's something odd that happens when you're giving someone the power to get someone else punished. One of two things happen:

- Person A reports person B because person B has broken an actual rule.

Or:

- Person A reports person B because the RP didn't turn out to be in favor of person A but rather person B, and that got person A cranky.

You also have the cases in which two players might be breaking the same (albeit minor) rule and end up reporting the other player for having broken said rule because the situation did not fall into their favor. Hypocritical opportunism, whoever reports it first might get the advantage over the other first in getting them punished. This is most common with the grinding mentality.

There are so many metaphorical alleyways to any player reporting system, forum or in-game. So many factors come into play. Some people might not be able to record their gameplay due to their PC being lower end, some people might not be able to get chat logs, oftentimes administrators have to play the guessing game with players and come up with reasonable and fair results for both parties based on actual provided proof and observation such as behavior, past player offenses, staff logs, etc.

None of that is a piece of cake.

Reporting rule breaking is essential in having a server that functions the way the owner(s) intended it to function. That doesn't mean it's perfect, that doesn't mean every administrators personally agree to everything and every rule on the server. But they have to enforce them nonetheless.

On the other hand, using the reporting feature to gain advantage or doing so out of spite as players is simply not right. But there's little to do about it. There's no magical way of fixing people's behavior and, there shouldn't be. If everyone followed the rules exactly as they were, there wouldn't really be any need for administrators.

What I think would make this slightly better is modifying the rule of "You should be IC at all times." While yes, you should be IC at all times, continuing RP when a major OOC disruption happens breaks immersion, flow of RP, and a player's will to continue said RP. Just imagine if every accidental punch was taken IC and people started to force those who missclick into RPing the punches? They don't. Well that should be the same for those who genuinely lag out and bump into cars/players. (Not talking about the 130mph crashes here). Forcing RP out of an OOC mishap is very displeasing, and very unecessary reports come out of these and this is just an example out of many.

Personally I'd like to report everyone for doing stupid shit. A random thot in a decent caffee taking off her shoes and while also being dressed as a cheap escort is more annoying to me than a usual Deathmatch case. The "thot" case was just one of the many immersion breaking dumb shit that people do. Hell, I'd even report the people who are desperate for roleplay, and instead of following an organic way of starting a conversation, they suddenly start talking to you as if you know them from ages. But hey, If I report that, snowflakes will cry. It might look harmless, but it's really triggering when you see everyone doing unrealistic human behavior that is not supported by human logic.

Just so I get that right...

You make a list of rather minor things that are very easily ignored/overlooked, as "triggering" and impossibly enraging. But "the others" are the snowflakes. Did I understand properly or uh...?
