Depends on the situation indeed. I don't want to spend a year here doing my ULSA degree, for example, but for a lot of cases current system (1:1) is totally fine.

I personally try to avoid time-skips as much as possible, and generally only do it when mandated by outside forces. I take things one day at a time according to what I refer to as "GTAW Time", which is the subjective measure of what everyone seems to think is generally reasonable for things to take. For example, my character acknowledges that in Los Santos six months is a long time because most people he knows will be gone within six months, but he still assumes that's just six months of real time and that IC happenings just push people out at that insane rate.
