What LEGAL job is underrepresented on the server?

To add onto the previous responses, I'd say (even for currently existing jobs) that we need more purely legal businesses and jobs.

If you take a quick look, most of the companies and businesses that operate or are open at any given time belong, in one way or another, to some criminal organization, are fronts for all sort of other activities and stuff - from pawn shops to night clubs, strip clubs, meat markets, casinos etc. There's no problem with this, especially if it's done right (and most are, in my opinion), but we need some businesses that are purely that - legal outlets for regular people to make a little (or a lot of) money. Some businesses, large or small, that actually struggle, that are actually vulnerable (not necessarily to illegal activities, but in general) etc.

Sure, there are businesses that act as fronts for illegal operations in real life but if you walk down your street, I'm sure that most of them aren't that. (depending on where you live, ofc)

Jewelers.

A decent amount of people in the city wear jewelry but the city lacks actual shops where these items can be purchased or obtained. Pawn shops would be the only exception but even then the jewelry was most likely created out of thin air before it was pawned.

I've seen like 3 jewelry shops open the last week or so.

There are a lot of job and career paths underrepresented on the server. Which isn't really a fault of the server or the player's, but more so the unconscious norm we run on the server. Where jobs that have a script purpose are more highly prioritized than jobs that do not have a script purpose. Where as, jobs that do not have a script purpose, purely "roleplay jobs" are next to unseen or roleplayed.

I can't think of a single character I've come into contact with that has roleplayed being an office worker, working in construction, city maintenance and so on. Not having a script purpose is one reason for this, but also, the fact that a lot of this jobs will have to be passively done and not actually roleplayed out, because I doubt many players are going to go clock into work in an office somewhere and sit there typing out random roleplay lines.

A very largely underrepresented avenue of roleplay is tailoring and seamstress roleplay. I can personally say I've done some of this in the past myself and it is a really unique and rewarding avenue of roleplay. Sure, it's a very time consuming type of roleplay (if done correctly), but it adds a nice layer of realism to the roleplay world. For example, when I used to do tailoring roleplay I would have law enforcement officers approaching my character to have suits made for police event and then on the flipside I would have people needing suits for court hearings. Overall a very rewarding roleplay avenue. However, partially why the roleplay as a tailor or seamstress (in my case) was so, successful and sought after. Was because I was supplying player's with a script item for their suits. Which obviously, adds some monetary script value to roleplay. Ironically I became somewhat disheartened to do the roleplay, due to the fact people just wanted the script items out of it. Not to sit through the roleplay.

Even if you read through prior posts on this thread, you can see there's a mentality that roleplay which gives a script-wise benefit is more highly prioritized over roleplay that does not give a script-wise benefit. There's nothing wrong with wanting to see that digital bank account increase in value through the roleplay you're doing, but at the same time I think a lot of people forget that this is a roleplay server and it's okay to do things for free.

It's not at all an unconscious norm.

Some time ago I proposed not once, but several times, the idea of a roleplay-focused office job, where people show up and just roleplay being at the office as they saw fit.

The idea was shot down quite thoroughly, as there were people who insisted that all jobs needed to be actual jobs with focus on the work rather than roleplay. There were others who already had office jobs open that were, predictably, profit/script focused over roleplay, and did not like the idea of competition existing without some actual service provided.

Which is a problem, because nobody's going to have any incentive to join a job if they don't get paid for being there. My only character with the income to support such an environment can't run a business on top of her obligations as a lawyer either.

So, it's essentially impossible to create a roleplay focused job. We've veered so far away from roleplaying for the sake of fun, that people are clamoring to justify work ingame being a second job with actual real world studies being needed just to participate.

It's bonkers crazy.
