Character vs Player:

When jumping into GTAW, you’re jumping into a virtual world that consists of different characters and different players behind those characters. There are standards that need to be followed when roleplaying your character, separating IC from OOC is a big part of your portrayal. You are here to enjoy the game and create a realistic environment for everyone on the server. Focusing on your character, good roleplay will lead to you being recognized. Remember your character might have a family, friends, needs, hobbies, emotions, and goals. People tend to sideline all of these to create either a self-insert character or some robo-gangster with killing and the next come up on their minds.

Being a Good Sport:

  • Separating IC from OOC.
  • All conflict that happens in character must be dealt with in character. Bringing it out of character is unnecessary and breeds a toxic environment.
  • Don’t go into /b when things don’t go your way or if you feel like there was any rule-breaking involved. Please use /report and wait for an administrator, you can also head over to the forums to the report section for it to be taken care of there.
  • Trash talking comes with any game you play but there comes a time where trash talking becomes harassment. Filing a harassment report will solve this issue.

Would your Character do this?:

In this section, I’ll be listing different scenarios. Look at the character you are portraying if you can’t justify your character doing this don’t do it.

  • What leads your character, a college student, to scale two warehouses to get your car back instead of calling the authorities?
  • What leads your character, a gang banger from South LS, to head over to Paleto bay, and start chain robbing people?
  • What leads your character to commit a string of robberies throughout Los Santos in a sports car that’s the equivalent to a Mercedes-Benz C-Class C 300?
  • Why is your female character that dons themselves in cat ears attempting to stop a nearby robbery in progressive instead of calling the authorities?

Robbery Roleplay:

Robbing an individual is one of the most sought-after means of making money as an illegal character on the server. With this being the case, there comes a time where the RP behind robbing an individual is unrealistic and horribly portrayed. Some of the listed bullet points are examples of what would be considered poor robbery roleplay standards according to the server rules:

  • Driving into the county as a gang member from South Central to conduct a robbery in Paleto Bay for no sensible IC reason (e.g. your path has not realistically led you to Paleto Bay for any discernible reason, this would be a significant drive on an IC basis)
  • Driving on a dirt bike with masks, not communicating, but pulling up to any pedestrian to conduct a gunpoint robbery at drive-by - Chaining robberies unrealistically, or unrealistic portrayal of a crime spree.
  • Moving from robbery to robbery and demanding victims move as quickly as possible, or clearly conducting robberies simply to gain OOC assets rather than for roleplay
  • Conducting robberies with overuse of force (such as 4 assault rifles) or for the purpose of provoking conflict (seeking to rob people in a gang neighborhood for an excuse to shoot them)

If you are going to be robbing individuals for a means of making money, let me share with you an example of what a good robbery entails.

  1. You and your homeboys decide to step out of your apartment in Chamberlain Hills, you witness a woman walking in Death Alley.
  2. After speaking briefly with them, one of you guys decided to step behind her and press the barrel of your Pistol MK2 to her back.
  3. You speak with her briefly in a hushed tone of voice before pulling her aside into a disclosed location. At this location, two of your other homeboys are standing there with their pistols out.
  4. You guys start waving your guns in her face, telling her to empty out her purse and pockets. She accepts the demands and gives you her cash plus any valuable belongings on her.
  5. After this, you tell her to get lost and she starts running for her life. You and your boys head back to your apartment where you just count up the cash and split her belongings up with each other.

You can also do a snatch and grab if you see somebody walking in disclosed locations like alleyways, parking garages (that are not near safe zones). You can run upon them quickly, initiate the RP with them, and quickly snatch their belongings and dip out. When pulling off a snatch and grab type of robbery remember that you owe it to the other party to roleplay with them thoroughly.

If you are on the other end of the robbery there are standards that need to be followed. Roleplaying fear is essential as your characters life depends on it. Don’t be that guy or girl that decides to walk away, run away, or drive away at gun point. You’re just asking to get shot, you might even get yourself killed depending on the character behind the gun. Remember if you decide to not show any type of fear during a robbery, your character is liable to be character killed.

There are standards that need to be followed on the server when it pertains to this style of roleplay. Hopefully, after reading this section, you’ll have a better understanding of what a good robbery roleplay is and you’ll be able to act accordingly.

Character Development:

Developing your character sets yourself apart from being that stereotypical self-insert character or robo-gangster. Character development brings authentic roleplay to the server and sets a standard of what quality roleplay is to the people that you surround yourself with.

Conclusion:

At the end of the day, GTA World was created with the goal to provide a fun, realistic, and dynamic roleplay experience for everyone involved. Everyone on the server wants to have fun but it doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice realism. Remember people join this server to roleplay in a realistic environment.

Some people need to understand that they are NOT their characters IRL and that actions that take place in-game do NOT reflect emotions/feelings or reflect attitudes outside of the game (OOCly) I can't tell you the amount of times someone has taken something my character has done ICly - OOCly and decided to hate me OOCly suddenly or otherwise stop talking to me just because of something my character did in a virtual world. Sad!
