Name : The Survivors Trust.

Description of the charity's activities :

Quote

The Survivors Trust is the largest umbrella agency for specialist rape and sexual abuse services in the UK and has been providing infrastructure support to our members for the past 15 years. We have 124 member agencies based in the UK and Ireland providing information, advice, support and therapy to over 80,000 individual survivors each year. Our services work with victims and survivors of all ages, all genders, of all forms of sexual violence, sexual abuse and sexual exploitation, including support for partners and family members.

The Survivors Trust and its members are committed to the fair treatment of people regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age or physical/learning disability.

Our Trustee Board is exclusively made up of Managers and Directors of rape and sexual abuse support services. Our core aim is to ensure that society supports all survivors effectively and takes responsibility for ending sexual violence.

Why should we choose this charity? As a charity that has personally helped me and at least a handful of other people I know, I'd like to nominate TST. They offer support to people of all genders who are subject to sexual assault/abuse, as well as more personalized help with daily activities that many struggle with after being sexually assaulted/abused. The people and volunteers are lovely, and I still get checked up on by a good few people I used to talk to.

Name :  European Network Against Racism

Description of the charity's activities : ENAR is the only pan-European anti-racism network that combines advocacy for racial equality and facilitating cooperation among civil society anti-racism actors in Europe. The organisation was set up in 1998 by grassroots activists on a mission to achieve legal changes at European level and make decisive progress towards racial equality in all EU Member States. Since then, ENAR has grown and achieved a great deal.

Why should we choose this charity? Racism is an undeniable issue that people of all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds face. However, people of minority backgrounds face the most discrimination and prejudice. Struggling to find stable work to provide for themselves and their families, living in constant fear or verbal and physical abuse, as well as many other issues. I would like to see us, as a community support this charity, due to the current political and social shifts going on in Europe (not to mention the larger world). People of Islamic, Traveler, and migrant backgrounds are some of the most at-risk peoples in modern-day Europe and these issues have only been exasperated by on-going war and Covid-19. Causing more of these at-risk peoples to have to migrate out of their home countries, just to reach safety, medical aid and the ability to just live a basic life. The GTAW community is incredibly diverse. Be that the character's we play, to the people behind the character's. Spanning from all different countries and cultural backgrounds and I just believe that supporting a charity like ENAR would make sense, considering how broad our community is now.

Name: Parents of Murdered Children

Description of the charity's activities: We at the National Organization of Parents Of Murdered Children acknowledge the challenges that we are all faced with while repeated acts of violence “have stolen” the lives of so many of our loved ones; past and present. Our hope is that the violence in our communities, our country and around the world will stop today! We want our country to heal, be at peace and work towards a day when there will be no more violence. Let that day begin NOW! The peaceful protests are a great way to have our voices heard. There has been so much pain and anger felt by so many people and our hope now is that we can all begin to heal together, listen to one another, and take care of each other. We offer hugs of compassion and unity as we deal with the inevitable days of struggle ahead that you or someone you love may be faced with.

Why should we choose this charity? Recent events that the community can relate to.

Name : International Rescue Committee

Description of the charity's activities : International Rescue Committee is a global humanitarian aid, relief and development nongovernmental organisation. It was founded at the request of Albert Einstein. The IRC provides emergency and long-term assistance to refugees and those displaced by war, persecution or natural disaster.

Why should we choose this charity? The International Rescue Committee helps people who are affected by wars and persecution by providing aid and long term assistance, this could be setting up refugees in safer places to grow up in and actually have a proper life. It also helps people affected by natural disasters, this is becoming a very common thing in the world and is only going to get worse and without this charity many people won't receive any help or assistance.

Name Malteser Germany

Description of the charity's activities :

Malteser Germany has around 300 volunteers on flood relief missions, with hundreds more on standby.

“The operational situations in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia are dramatic and still constantly changing.” said Malteser Help Service President Georg Khevenhüller. “The danger to the lives of residents affected by the floods and also to colleagues in the fire department, for example, are very high. We think especially of the relatives of the deceased in these hours.”

Chaplains are provided by this organization amongst other support.

Why should we choose this charity?

After three months there is still a big need, most of them didn't even have an insurance for their stuff. So most of them lost their houses and stuff, as all of their jobs and workplaces got destroyed. So they don't even have a chance to earn money now, because these places live from the source for income for these places is tourism, which, now is not possible for many years. The Maltesers are  providing financial support for rebuilding and underpinning the reconstruction of social services, Malteser Germany works to provide psychosocial support to people affected by the 2021 German floods.

Name: Crohn's & Colitis UK

Description of the charity's activities: Crohn's & Colitis UK has been the lead organization in searching for treatments for Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) which both affect the digestive tract.

Why should we choose this charity?: First and foremost, I would like to briefly explain what Crohn's/UC is since a lot of people have either only heard of the disease or have flat out never heard of it at all. Crohn's falls under the IBD umbrella (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). It causes inflammation of your digestive tract, which can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss and malnutrition. UC is quite similiar to Crohn's as it also affects the digestive tract and can also be treated using the same type of medicine, however, the paramount difference between the two are Ulcerative Colitis is limited to the colon while Crohn's disease can occur anywhere between the mouth and the anus.

IBD in general is rarely talked about as it affects such a "taboo" area of people's bodies. Whilst you may have not even have heard of Crohn's, UC, or even IBD, a lot of celebrities/public figures you may know of have it. People like MrBeast, Dynamo (the magician), Pete Davidson, Chuck Lorre, Dan Reynolds, and many, many more all have IBD. Did you know that?

How does IBD affect people day to day? This varies from person to person, but, for some it can be very serious, and for others it can be extremely mild. I personally suffer with this illness myself and I am exceptionally lucky that my Crohn's is leaning towards the mild end of the spectrum. Patients with IBD have an increased risk of cancer development as a result of their illness.

As for why this charity should be picked, Crohn's & Colitis UK is known as a very reputable charity in searching for treatments, and ultimately a cure for a disease which at this current moment of time is incurable. In addition, whilst this cause may appear quite niche and potentially even to some a waste of time bothering to look at donating for this charity, when admittedly people above have put far greater causes, the approximate five million people worldwide suffering from this disease would be profoundly appreciative of just your understanding of this disorder. So even if this cause is not picked, I will put some links down below for those who wish to read into Crohn's/UC/IBD in general and expand their medical vocab and knowledge. :)

Name :

European Organisation of Military Associations and Trade Unions

Description of the charity's activities :

As of current, the ESPU, EuroCOP and EUROMIL are working on a joint protect on "Strengthening and Defending Trade Union Rights in the Public Sector". It's aimed to assess current legislative frameworks across the EU regarding trade union rights for public sector workers, including military and police forces. They are active in working for Trade Unions and the common working man all cross the EU as well as working with military and veterans to ensure a healthy transition and lifestyle. On the trade union side, they are working toward assisting with legislature to make sure all workers of the EU have reasonable accomadations and are treated fairly. Something the world needs. On the Military Assocations side, their primary focus is the mental health of EU soldiers who experienced combat in Afghanistan. Throughout the entire world, not just the EU, veterans struggle with mental health and are routinely committing suicide and leaving entire families distraught. They aim to assist in lowering that number in any way possible. Primarily through influencing legislature and setting up hotlines and assistance for these individuals.

Why should we choose this charity?

Now, first I will start off. I do not know much about this charity simple due to the fact that I am American. Alas there's not any American Veteran charities that also have EU subsidiaries to fit the bill. I have been doing my research since this announcement has been made, and I feel like any contribution would assist them. They seem to be doing very great work and are highly organized.

There are two main problems almost every country faces, and seeing as how I am American, I can actually understand the plight of what this charity is attempting to accomplish. It is no secret that Trade Unions are on the rise and are also heavily fought against in legislature to lower the power provided to the daily working man. Hopefully everyone of age in this community is one of those working men. They may understand the struggle of putting food on their families tables, wages being cut, hours being cut, as well as being unable to provide for their families in the world's current state of inflation. For all my UK peeps, you've seen first hand what the negatives are of turning down these trade unions. For instance look at the current gasoline crisis. The current gasoline crisis can be partly contributed to by non trade union drivers visas etc being revoked and expiring and them having to return to their own country. This has led to the common working man being unable to get enough gasoline to fill their vehicles for their work week. It also causes potentially hours long waits just to get a few liters or gallons of gasoline. It's gotten so bad that I have heard that even the military of the UK are going to have to step in to ensure that the gas stations are filled.

The problems listed above are problems this organization are looking to assist in fixing. By providing funding to these individuals, they can ensure that the money goes to the correct places so the common working man can worry less about how to provide for their family.

When it relates to veteran suicide and mental health. All the countries in the world have a military. I am prior military for the United States and respect all my brothers in the United States as well as other countries of individuals who serve in their militaries. These individuals ensure that the state of living you are accustomed to continue. Countless countries across the EU have been victim to terrorist attacks, and if it were not for the actions of all the countries militaries, these terrorists attacks would almost certainly be tenfold. After these individuals have served in the military, they can be subject to routine abuse and horrible mental health crises that currently are overlooked and swept under the rug, increasing the rate of veteran suicide everywhere.

Personally, I feel as if this hits home. I have had plenty of friends join the 22 a Day club ((A common term used for US veteran suicides)) and wish I could do something about it. I am personally an avid donator at three separate United States based veteran groups looking to assist in the mental health of our veterans. During my time in the military I have made friends in dozens of countries militaries, plenty of them being from EU related countries. We've spoken and talked and I understand that while it is a epidemic in the United States. Veteran Suicide is an epidemic in almost all countries and they are almost always overlooked. This organization is looking to assist in lowering these numbers and stopping the pain of these veterans, as well as the pain of the families of these veterans if they ultimately commit suicide.

In summary, I feel as if this charity can do great work. They have two primary missions and both of those I feel relate to literally everyone. Now don't get me wrong, there are plenty of wonderful charities being posted on this thread. But I feel like this organization is a perfect compromise for everyone. All the charities being posted are going to very niche ideas, while they are good ideas do not get me wrong. The mission of this organization can stretch out to every individual in the EU who plays on this server. Everyone from the EU on this server either is or knows someone who's working who can't make ends meet. Or they know or are a military veteran struggling with suicidal tendencies and reintegrating into society. This organization not only has a large mission, but has a mission that can basically affect every individual here in the EU. I personally believe in their mission even though I am not an EU citizen and I only hope that the money can be donated to this organization to continue the mission of fighting for the average working individual and veteran.

 Name The Ocean Cleanup

Description of the charity's activities :

" Every year, millions of tons of plastic enter the oceans, primarily from rivers. And the plastic that’s afloat within the oceans isn’t going away by itself. To effectively solve the problem, we need to both turn off the tap and mop the floor at the same time. The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organization, is developing and scaling technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. Our aim is to put ourselves out of business once the oceans are clean. Our models indicate that a full-scale system rollout could clean up 50% of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 5 years. Research shows the majority of plastic in the gyres (In oceanography, a gyre is any large system of circulating ocean currents) by mass is currently in the larger debris. By removing the plastic while most of it is still large, we prevent it from breaking down into dangerous microplastics. Our aim is to have removed 90% of floating ocean plastic by 2040. We plan to do this by cleaning up the legacy plastic -the plastic already floating in the ocean- and by “closing the tap” through river plastic interception. "

Why should we choose this charity?

" Plastic pollution in the world's oceans is one of the biggest environmental issues of our time, impacting nearly 700 marine species. According to a study conducted in collaboration with Deloitte, yearly economic costs due to marine plastic pollution are estimated to be between $6-19bn USD. The costs stem from the plastic’s impact on tourism, fisheries and aquaculture, and (governmental) cleanups. Plastic pollution does not only impact sea life, it also carries toxic pollutants into the food chain – a food chain including us humans. "

" At 16 years of age, Boyan Slat saw more plastic bags than fish when scuba diving in Greece. He thought: “Why can’t we just clean this up?” This question led him to research the plastic pollution problem for a school project. He learned about plastic accumulating in five large oceanic gyres, the largest one being the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In 2012, Boyan Slat held a TedX talk about how to rid the world’s oceans of plastic using technology. The video went viral, and the momentum that followed allowed him to drop out of school and found The Ocean Cleanup. "

The Ocean Cleanup is a registered ANBI Foundation in the Netherlands. I was going to choose #TeamSeas but it's a US-based organization.

" The Ocean Cleanup has teamed up with #TeamSeas (US-based organization) to help bring attention to the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans and raise funds to help solve it. The #TeamSeas fundraising campaign kicked off on October 29, 2021, and aims to reach the funding goal of 30 million dollars by January 1, 2022. Half of the funds will go to The Ocean Cleanup, helping us deploy and operate Interceptors, collecting one pound of trash for every dollar donated. "

The org prioritizes on providing Giant Pandas with supplies and medical treatment within sanctuaries, as there are currently only 2,200 Giant Pandas within the world. The org also develops research towards resolving health-related issues within pandas,

Including research towards developing a healthy reproductive cycle for the species.

Overall, prioritizes on the sheltering, research, and hospitality of the Giant Pandas before re-introducing them into the wild to diversify the species.
