Dune (2021)

Has anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts?

I'm on my second watch and I love it. It's a beautiful film, true to the books (imo) and it already got greenlit for part 2 so we get more MOTHERFUCKING DUNE.

I thought it was really beautiful, visually and from a sound perspective. I definitely can see how it inspired universes like Warhammer 40K, Star Wars, and why it's called the genre defining work, similar to how LOTR defines fantasy.

Loved the movie but not some parts of it.

 

Like for real, you travel in between planets but do so in a blocky flying pirate ship? And you have microscopic drones and high-efficiency cannons but fight with swords? This was probably done to make the timing seem more ambiguous but I would've honestly preferred to see something a bit more high-tech.

Because they have shields on. That's the reason they fight with swords.

Yeah, but those shields didn't help much if the people applied some force and didn't give up... and bullets or lasers have so much more force than a human hand.

Thats not how the shields work. The faster something moves. The easier the shield works to stop it. They use swordsbecause the way you get through the shields is by moving the sword slowly through it. Slower the object. Less effect the shield has.
