how and why are there so many rich people

Recommended Posts

i think a big part of this is also that the available legal roleplay options on the server lack variety and the vast majority cater solely for this type of thing. i mean, take a look at the open/available businesses at any given time, mostly it's expensive upmarket nightclubs, jewellery stores, casinos, strip-clubs/escort services, private member resorts and so on. when so much of the world is centred around that type of roleplay, the only real options you have are either to not engage at all or to create a character that actually fits into these environments. a lot of people choose the latter.

I think there are some misconceptions when it comes to characters who have wealth. While I cant speak for everyone, my own character is somewhat wealthy. However on that cavoite I've worked super hard and have spent over 1000 hours roleplaying to accumulate this wealth. There might be some secret to "get rich quick" on this server but Everything I've seen involves some kind of time and effort. Even owning a home and doing the interior takes time and effort to make it look good.

I don't think people have issues with characters who work for their wealth but the issue comes with poor portrayal.
For example:
A 16 year old from davis buying a $70,000 FUTO GTX.
A character in Sandy Shores who lives in a trailer but drives a $100,000 truck.

I'm a firm believer in letting people RP the way they want because I do feel like on this server people "Gate keep" In the sense they want you to RP a specific way or character. But at the end of the day I suppose it's RPQM's directive to fish out those people. How effective that is, not a clue.

Keep in mind you can have more than one character, and if someone has a wealthy character it's likely they also have a alt in which they portray a different status in life.

How bout no money at all and we just set our characters up how we want to portray them when they're created! This is supposed to be a heavy text roleplay server not a heavy ARPG with roleplay server. 🙂

You'd only end up with a huge spike in people having mansions, driving exotic cars and flying private jets and helicopters to their top-tier Vinewood nightclubs while having some very sketchy, poorly-planned background to justify such extraordinary financial means.

At least now RPQM can deal with them.

Not quite sure! One server, I'm talking about one from 2018 so a while ago, had just that: you selected a lifestyle at the start. The fear of many was that there would only be rich people, but weirdly enough, the repartition was a gaussian curve: a few in extreme poverty, some not-too-rich, several middle-of-the-line, some richer than average, a few very rich. While it doesn't follow an RL curve, it was quite a surprise to see that not everyone (far from it) wanted to play a hyper rich manson bro, and there were a fair share who were just fine playing an average-income-or-below character ^^

Of course the sample size was small (they had ~400 players overall), but it was pretty interesting to see 🙂

To be honest, the problem isn't the economy... It's the player's mindset.

While I have two characters with enough money to (realistically) live comfortably for the rest of their lives, I don't RP as such, simply because I get the money wheter I want it or not. They're just average, there are times where I don't care about losing a bit of money or taking a bad deal thanks to this, but for the vast majority of expenses, I take them as any middle-class person would.

Giving us more expenses will do nothing but encourage grinding and force people to do boring script jobs they might not want to make, and for the illegal side, it's likely to bring back the slowly declining petty crime with sub-par RP where only the thieves abusing the rules have fun.

If you want to roleplay a bartender who barely covers the bills... I'm sorry to say, you'll have to force that to happen because you'll be making way more money than such a character would... The same goes for a store clerk. Script jobs are the lowest of the low, yet one of the fastest ways to earn cash (if we put aside home / vehicle flipping).

...it's not hard to make at all. Please do it, it's fun to RP with average Joe(s) 🙂

A 70,000$ car is pretty low range on GTAW though. Our car prices are out of control. Those 70,000$ aren't real life dollars. In real life you don't pay 60$ for a soda.
