how and why are there so many rich people

  1. higher taxes aren't going to do anything except foster a grind mentality in new players.
  2. Starter money creates an unrealistic influx of cash sure, but it's only 200k given out at 5k an hour of active playtime. So that's 40 hours of play time before you accumulate the entire amount and even then, it's quickly spent on the starter assets like cars (30-50k) and a property (75-100k). Removing it would just lead to a grind mentality in new players and likely discourage people from starting or trying new characters in the first place.

Having so many rich people isn't the actual issue. We're replicating an LA style city, there are going to be tons of rich people. The issue is outside of extreme examples staff does nothing to curb unrealistic wealth portrayal or rises to said level. Are there millionaires who made their money playing for example poker in real life? Absolutely. But they are also experts at the game they play and spend hundreds of hours a week perfecting said craft. On GTAW there's about 500 millionaires who made all their money off poker and all they did was spend a couple hours pouring money into it until they came out on top.

Pokers just the example I used but the problem remains the same. Unless you used an exploit/glitch or didn't even try to RP when making your money, staff doesn't see any issue even if the portrayal is wildly off.

As a side note, I'd really like to see staff police the over accumulation of wealth. There's been about 20 replies on this thread saying that while they have millions in their account they still RP being poor. Now I've seen graphs in the past showing the percentage of millionaires on this server so its possible staff knows who they are, why not speak to them and say "Hey, what are you doing with this money. If you don't have a reason you gotta /charity it". Because I'll be frank, while I'm sure people who are doing this aren't letting it effect their RP. Let's be honest, when it comes to dropping some money on a new property or assets for your faction or character. People are very quick to suddenly tag in the money they supposedly didn't have IC.

The very same people with too much money are the ones then suggesting "money sinks" as remedy to the economic situation, playing these arbitrarily in the 5-figure-sums in their suggestions because "inflated game economy and the server is x10 I read in the tutorial when I started minig back in the day".

And indeed asspulling money, so to say- I am strongly against the usage of money as "rp resource" as I've stated plenty of times.

The result is obvious, people who don't have much money ic and constantly act like that suddenly have the millions (regardless now if from poker, a regular paycheck, running a business or a combination of that now) to invest in whatever project, in case outbidding those who use their money ic.

While the claim is that "this is used to create roleplay", what such people ignore is that it affects markets.

When poor ass little red riding hood needs a gun but suddenly can dish out the briefcase of cash to the hunter to buy his gun, the same gun will the also cost more for the wolf when he tries to get one.

And that (guns) 's one of the simpler markets, let's not get into labour and how randomly awarded tips for "good roleplay" by bad roleplayers that ignore the ingame economy affect that.

The phenomenon of "Fuck this job and fuck your place, I always hated you and coming here and now made it" is not just limited to strippers here and way to common (most people are way less rude than I described, but you get me).

I've literally been scouring the housing market for a low quality south central house/home for months now, but the going price is regularly "I'll trade it for another house" or not available at all.

Playing as a poor character is desired, but all that remains available are well-off condos in really nice parts of town.

It's weird that looking rich is the only affordable option :c

Trading should be banned.

Agreed, gives people who are newer no option to BUY a house. Forces you to lease and that even if you can get one.

We have this exact problem in Paleto and Sandy and honestly? Fuck these people. Give it to RP'ers who want to RP there. Not some random weirdo who wants to asset-whore.

It's what happens on any server that makes houses an in-character commodity. If there's money to be made, they are going to make it. These kinds of players don't care about your RP, they care about padding their bank account and then turn around and say "oh it's to create RP" 🤣 Properties in-game should be used strictly for RP, not to farm money. People who say they like real estate RP? Bullshit. Maybe the select few out there but the majority are just in it for the cash. The only way to fix it is to make property prices static and take the commodity out of the market. Unfortunately, the market is too far gone to even suggest such a thing here.

I don’t really care if people have too much money in their pockets as long as they portray their character in a realistic way. They don’t? They need to be informed about it and they need to change that attitude. They cannot realistically portray their character? They don’t fit into this server.

The economy is not the problem behind what you see.

Actually, giving lot of money to a good roleplayer is not a bad thing at all. Because you literally help him portray whatever he wants with no OOC money issue at all.

We see too many fancy cars? Too many people in casinos playing with millions? Gang members with weapons in their houses worth millions? The problem is not the server, the problem is THE PLAYERS. There has to be a group of admins that work ONLY on the realistic portrayal of individuals inside the server. Because you can’t blame someone if he wants to do a wealthy RP, but you can blame and punish people who RP poor but have assets worth millions.

Because making money is a simple thing to do, compared to my time in samp I feel like I'll probably never hit rock bottom unless I specifically choose to roleplay being at rock bottom, nothing can go wrong and you can easily make money anywhere doing anything, sometimes I want things forced on me based on my bad financial decisions, it makes things unpredictable instead of it's me scripting my financial situation when I have a few mills in the bank "OOCly"

Don't get me wrong it's not the starter money, that money is good for new players to get a property and a budget car and that's it, the income comes from businesses, that 4k an hour minimum is part of it, but when the employee gets a share of profits that 4k can turn into 40k or 100k an hour real quick depending on how busy it is.

We have no taxes, no secondary expenses, compared to the average income a player makes a month the fuel prices are laughable, we need a money sink that's realistic to a degree but also remedies the server issues, not something that breaks our backs financially, but rather makes sure players actively roleplay in order to stay out of poverty or keep their wealth instead of sitting around chatting all day while collecting their 4k welfare checks while doing nothing in front of the business they /startshift at.
