The Christy Moran Gang

Recommended Posts

A lot of people associate Irish-American mobs with Irish nationals and expatriates and this is part to do with the fact that these straight-off-the-boat factions became the status quo in the absence of experience. While there are many Irish nationals within the city of Los Angeles, they are for the most part tourists. The latest figures made available show that while there is no real Irish "enclave" in Los Angeles, the city does boast a population of around 400,000 Irish-American citizens who identify as Irish. The majority of our faction members are American citizens who have some form of Irish heritage. Some identify as Irish, some don't and some are from other ethnic minority groups.

There are many perceptions of how an Irish mob should operate and many that do what they know but the likelihood of one of the existing Irish mobs forming a "satellite crew" in Los Angeles is minimal. Irish gangs like the Westies, The Winter Hill Gang, Philadelphia's K&A Gang and Canada's West End Gang are products of their own environments and excel in their individual domains because of their availability to recruit from blue-collar Irish neighbourhoods, something that's  impossible to do in Los Angeles because there is no Irish reservation. But what there is is an Irish pub in practically every major neighbourhood. "Satellite" crews as you know them often roleplay having strong ties to their homeland to create this illusion of "power," but our faction does the exact opposite of that. Whilst there is certainly roots (which is mandatory for any faction) they are loose and very much exaggerated which is why our group put emphasis on being the black sheep.

The chances of heritage being distinguished by our accents, appearance and demeanour is minimal, we are no different than your common American citizen. If you are attempting to join, please do not approach us speaking the Irish language (Gaelic) and please do not roleplay as an Irish alien with IRA ties, we will most likely ignore you. But being generational does not make us any less proud of our heritage and background. The members of our faction our very much still blue collar and will hold jobs. A lot of our emphasis, as a faction, is on the lower-level of organized crime. Unlike the mafia's structure, the Irish mob's structure is no structure and the ranks are designated by respect. There will be one or two holdovers and loosely-affiliated gangsters then the rest of the faction members are thugs, delinquents, ruffians and hired guns who nickel and dime their way through life.

I always emphasize to newcomers that their development as a character should come before their interest in becoming a faction member. I help educate our members on the importance of vehemence. And by vehemence I mean that your character should be a living, breathing person with emotions, empathy, reactions and remorse. A lot of people get caught up in the blood-and-thunder and often portray overly-phlegmatic characters who have zero responsiveness and this isn't something we look for in members. We do not care about showing weakness, vulnerability or fear to bigger factions because it is realistic. While we do try and make the experience as enjoyable as possible for members, our foremost priority will always be on realism.

This is not your conventional "Irish mob," it is a group of Irish-Americans who partake in criminal activities. We do not want to be a satellite crew or a subsidiary of prominent or out-of-date factions, we are simply domesticated criminals with no reach beyond the level they're at. I feel this is an approach the majority of factions should take on to avoid these constant one-up-manships and power vacuums. A lot of people seem to want to be these transnational and international organizations but we are the exact opposite of that, domesticated gangsters who see the city as a "retirement plan" and use local low-level criminals to extend their reach.

And again, any comments, concerns or queries can be forwarded to my inbox. We'll be more than willing to accommodate them collectively on discord, too. The change in name reflects in character events.
