OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

SAN ANDREAS FIREARM ASSOCIATION

Today Senator Noah Wade came out with Senate Bill 50, a wide restructuring of the Hunting and Animal Protection Act. The bill, despite being labelled and shoveled through the Senate as simple common-sense solutions, has several glaring issues with it that need addressed;

  1. Not wearing a yellow vest in a "hunting area" while in possession of a firearm will potentially bring jail time and a $750-1,500 fine. (§14.E)
  2. Hitting a wild animal with your car, or shooting one in self defense, without a "hunting tag" will potentially bring jail time and a $2,500-5,000 fine (§14.C)
  3. Civilians even walking on trails with firearms in state forests/designated "hunting areas" will now be required to wear the same safety vests as hunters. If you want to take your family for a hike in Chumash; better bring reflective vests if you don't want jail time! (§6.H)

While Senator Wade shills this government power grab with a "Free hunting day!" once a month, the fact is this is a stark power grab, and the timing the San Andreas Park Rangers requests this seems rather coincidental given the ongoing lawsuit by Ms. Naomi Linden pertaining to open carrying in the state park. The new regulation prohibiting open carry without a hunting vest is very clearly targeted at people attempting to simply exercise their second amendment rights without harassment.

The bill needs the following, and, until then, SAFA's Political Action Committee will vehemently oppose the bill and senators who support it.

  1. Add self-defense and accident exemptions to hunting ethics, safety, and hunting tag requirements. Shooting a coyote in self defense, or hitting one with your truck should not rely on the generosity of a park ranger not to charge you with a misdemeanor and throw you in jail.
  2. Remove the totalitarian requirements targeting open carry Americans to require them, and only them, to wear a hunting vest. Either require everyone in state hunting grounds to wear vests - including law enforcement - or only people actively hunting. The current proposal is nothing less but an assault on our second amendment and a retaliation for filing suit against the Department of Fish and Wildlife, who publicly backed the bill.

We will continue fighting for your rights in the courts and in the legislature.

Comment: Government imposing more totalitarian laws that borderline resemble Communist China. They are putting more restrictions on the honest and legal man when the bigger threat are the illegal guns in the state. Pure incompetency. Man's going to get arrested for defending himself against thieves on a dirt road for not wearing a vest? Stupidity. If a man is driving down a road in a "hunting zone" with a gun by his side, he's catching jail? More dotishness. Un-American scunts following the path to China.
