Will the upcoming election clean up Senate politics?

Toxic politics: Our tied Senate is proving a headache for legislators as Senate nears end of session

LOS SANTOS - With the recent controversy over the passing of the Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2021 and the ongoing impeachment process of Republican President Pro-Tempore Frank Ernst, it is clear that whatever sense of rosy bipartisanship that was present after March’s election left the Senate tied has dissipated.

To some degree, this fragile sense of bipartisanship has seen results. Notable examples include The Hunting & Animal Protection Act Of 2021 and San Andreas Port Authority Act of 2021. But when it comes to legislation that is more divisive on traditional party grounds, such as the State Legalization of Sex Work Bill of 2021, the Abolition of Death Penalty Act of 2021 (both proposed by Democratic Senator Valeria Reyes) and the Save Adolescents From Experimentation Bill of 2021 (proposed by Republican Jonathan Spencer), proceedings quickly become bogged in the political mud.

Secretary of State Guillermo Perez’s tiebreaker vote which sent the Abolition of Death Penalty Act through the Senate has left Senate Republicans fielding petitions from law enforcement officers to Governor Brandt in desperate search of a veto and the complications involved in the process of the Sex Work Bill of 2021 have lead to Democratic Senators initiating impeachment procedures aimed at Frank Ernst, with only weeks left in session.

“You are a disgrace for oppressing both the public and the truth with your censorship. I recommend you take the time off to write more than three sentences if you attempt to impeach the President pro tempore of the State Senate.” Republican Vice-Chair Noah Wade in address to Senator Reyes on Facebrowser

The breakdown in relations does not end with just Senate votes, however. It is visible on Facebrowser posts and numerous anonymous ‘blog’ posts made, where rumors and wild allegations are being thrown presumably by the political opponents of those who are targeted.

As for the future, both the Los Santos Democratic Party and the Los Santos Republican Party have relatively new chairs. For the Democrats, the fresh face of Marty Haney (most well known for his position as State Superintendent of Public Instruction) and for the Republicans Gordon Maxwell (previous Party Secretary).

Whether or not these new chairs will signal any change in approach come election time isn’t clear. The last election process was fraught with controversy, especially at events such as the televised debate between Republican candidate Bobby Warner and Democratic candidate Chloe Knight. If current rhetoric is anything to go by, this election cycle could end up being bloodier.

“A serial killer who has perpetrated gruesome crimes against women and children may now be able to "integrate" (more like slip) back into society because of blue Democrat senators.” - The rhetoric of Gordon Maxwell, Facebrowser

The elections themselves are due in September and they may return a Senate with a clear majority in one party’s favor which would split the partisan gridlock that it has been facing. Alternatively, yet another tied senate may reignite some flames of cross-party cooperation.

The only thing thing that seems certain at the moment is an increase in cross-party hostilities as the impeachment vote proceeds and the fate of the Abolition of the Death Penalty act remains in the air.

Comment: Will it clean up senate politics? Yeah, if Reyes doesn't get elected again. She's the one who was inspired by cop killers to write a bill banning the death penalty! She tried to legalize prostitution! What kind of message does this send to todays youth if we allow someone this morally corrupt to hold public office?

Comment: Mrs Reyes is the villain when it comes to San Andreas politics. She represents the vileness of the Democrates and tried to legalized prostitution. Call a spade a spade, because this is legalized sex trafficking and the victimization of women of foreign origins. I have heard the sadness and horror when it comes to other countries that have legalized prostitutions. America is for the free but not for the oppressors. Mrs Reyes is an oppressor and making bank from criminal enterprises. VOTE HER OUT. VOTE REPUBLICANS.
