Business Rules Question: Startup & Legality

Is there any rules against starting a business from a parking lot or from the back of my truck?  At least as far as the server, as I understand business licenses and laws and all that in character may apply?

 

This could be for legal items (like, I dunno, chocolate bars or something) or illegally acquired items (like someone stealing a boom box or something)?

Yes, starting a business from a parking lot would be illegal, as parking lots are usually private property, so it would be like going to someone else's place and selling stuff from there.

So that would be illegal from an in character sense right?  OOC as far as server rules, would that result in a ban or kick or admin jail or anything?  And perhaps parking lot was a bad example, say for example, like opening a fruit stand on the side of the road?

 

In character, maybe if you do it in the wrong spot, like in front of city hall or in front of a fire hydrant, it would be handled in game by cops or fire marshall or whatever.  But it wouldn't be something an admin would have an issue with so long as it's not disrupting the server in general correct?

I don't see an issue. You just won't have the script benefits of having a private scripted business. My opinion here.

Would be purely an IC issue if the police/fire even cared. But since they have better thing to do you'll probably be alright. Only downside is you won't have the business related scripts but that doesn't really matter.

Yeah, it's only an IC issue, but the police are not the one who care, city government does care more about unlicensed business activity and in the past they gave a lot of fines and warnings to dealerships and businesses operating out of private/public parking lots without the proper licenses. If you have a food truck or something like that, you can get a business license for it and then you'd be fine out of an IC stand point as well.
