jcat
Just now, bonk said: Make a suggestion if you're disgusted by them! Bonks, I'd love to, but most of what I'm disgusted by is core gameplay to a lot of people. I knew the rules when I joined GTAW. When something is against the rules, I'm quick with the report, but I'm not going to try to force people to change to suit me. I knew the rules when I joined, as did we all, and by joining we all agreed to play by those rules (some of us need gentle reminders more than others). Notice that I don't go on here and complain about what disgusts me. It's within the rules, and I knew that joining the game. If those things are bothering me, I ignore those people and I do what I like to do. If it's irritating enough, I take a break from GTAW. Link to comment
shushu
1. +1 for the NSFW section that can be enabled/disabled. 2. The "if you don't like an ad, turn off the whole ads" argument is plain stupid and does not solve the problem mentioned in the post. 3. Admins, please enforce the rules. It's actually funny to see someone get kicked for stupid ads like "stripper looking for work/good time" and "male/female escort looking for work" ads. I've only seen someone get kicked for this once and I can't even remember the admin's name. 4. This is just a game and not everything is and should be based on real life. It just has to be REALISTIC enough because, again, this is just a game and things that happen here doesn't always happen IRL and vice versa. There's nothing wrong with changing up a few things to accommodate a number of people (technically majority seeing there are lots of underaged ppl here), especially if said changes would be healthy for the server. If you want everything to be like how things are IRL, then suggest adding NPCs, CCTVs mapped everywhere, IRL agencies, etc... Just make your own suggestion. Again, this is just a game. Certain things can exist/disappear as long as they are realistic and follows the server continuity. 5. Why throw so much crap at the author? Does your sarcasm contribute to the discussion or is it just to make you feel good and look smart in attacking the OP? Make your own suggestion if you a better idea instead of attacking the OP (even subtly). I am of age and I agree that seeing NSFW ads shouldn't be as common as it is especially if minors feel uncomfortable. If they truly make up more than 50% of the playerbase here, and/or if majority of the players here are uncomfortable with the said ads, then their sentiments shouldn't be disregarded. 1 1 Link to comment
jcat
Sigh. 3 hours ago, shushu said: Admins, please enforce the rules. That would be nice. 3 hours ago, shushu said: Why throw so much crap at the author? Because it's not all about him. The OP joined a game meant for people who can handle 18+ material of his own free will, after having read the rules, and now wants to place yet more rules on people because of his feelings over utter trivialities. Bear in mind we are talking about mild text ads, not images. Expecting others to change to accommodate his feelings is fundamentally an immature viewpoint, regardless of age. If someone can't handle innocuous text ads then he needs to deal with his feelings instead of pressuring staff to force everyone else to change. 3 hours ago, shushu said: Make your own suggestion I have done so on this and other topics, but people don't like my solutions to problems because they would solve problems very thoroughly and they require more effort than getting the admins to force everyone to comply. How about this suggestion: stop worrying about the small stuff. How about this suggestion: stop getting in other players' business How about this suggestion: people control their feelings instead of trying to control others. How about this suggestion: accept the things you like and the things you don't like, because that's GTAW, and GTAW will provide you with things you don't like, in abundance. How about this suggestion: Quote Here's another idea: make a personals category where people can advertise for all the things that are of interest only to them. Then give every category a button in the interface so people can choose which categories of ads appear as notifications. And everyone who hates "adult" ads, stop hitting on female characters (that shit's cringe). Stop going to strip joints. Do your part to desexualize the server. Then we can all get back to robbing, dealing drugs, and killing each other. EDIT: Everyone who hates adult ads, do your part and call LSPD and snitch them out. Demand that LSPD vice squad that allegedly exists do its job. Form IC vigilante groups. Call hookers and beat the hell out of them when they show up. Just say it's a robbery, then you can do anything you want. Search and destroy. Burn out the nest. Solve the problem. Don't come on here and complain and then do nothing. If the server permits groups to attack and beat gay characters outside of nightclubs, you can make a difference too. 3 hours ago, shushu said: Does your sarcasm contribute to the discussion Absolutely. The point of my posts is for people to: Grow up and stop sweating completely trivial shit. Look, I just said 'shit'. Oh no. Good thing I didn't say '18 y/o girl looking for work. Have cat ears, will travel'. We'd all have to wash our eyes out, with soap. Take responsibility for themselves and their actions. Every time they log in, they knowingly choose to enter a space in which they will be exposed to small text notifications about escorts, big booties, and the rest of it. Even if the personal ads, like escort ads and catgirls looking for work ads, were eliminated, business ads for escort service companies (not illegal) and sex shops (not illegal) and adult modeling agencies (not illegal) would still be there, completely in accordance with server rules that each and every one of us agreed to abide by when we signed up. Play by the rules, or play somewhere else. Don't cry to the admins over this tiny shit. It's pathetic. Realize where this leads. It leads to more and more coddling of feelings, more and more rules, more and more acrimony, and more and more toxicity. We've seen this before. It all exploded about a year ago, and it was a toxic disgrace. That's why Nervous had to write this: See the putrid hypocrisy. So many people on this server use the worst language, go to strip joints, call those escorts, and generally behave in a manner beneath contempt, but that's all ok I guess. Text ads that appear for a few seconds at the bottom of the screen are the problem. 3 Link to comment
Engelbert
I have better idea. Ditch ads altogether, businesses can post blips, we have dating site and Facebrowser as well. Accessible by ingame phone. Move ads to the phone interface. Link to comment

Yoak
Please could this be addressed by staff/management? I feel like this suggestion still stands relevant. @bonk has brought up so many good points and they're just getting swept under the rug. Link to comment
Vassilios
I'm over 18 and I personally don't care about the contents of the ads but they do get annoying when everybody is looking "for a good time" or for an escort and I can also understand why some people would not be okay with it. Link to comment
lux
A "Black Pages" section on the advertisement page could work. Users would have to select an option in the menu for those ads to become visible. Nothing worse than when you're trying to put an ad out but some escort looking for ERP is spamming the feed. 3 Link to comment
