Is it time to put an end to escort advertisements?

Local advertising networks seem to be carrying more escorting ads than ever. Should something be done?

Los Santos, SA - Putting an exact date on when escort services started serving as a legal loophole to enable the world's oldest profession would be difficult.

Legally, escorting exists in a shadowy grey area. Services claiming to provide little more than companionship or a partner for a dinner party are, strictly speaking, not breaking any laws. However, as we all know, the true services on offer are rarely what is advertised.

Prostitution in America has served as a persistent issue for law enforcement to deal with and Los Santos has proven to be no different in that regard.

In one such case shown to LSNN, an eighteen year old woman claiming to be from Britain was offering “anything [the customer] wishes to do, for however long” in return for a cash fee. This woman was reached through a publicly available advertisement on a local advertising network

Solutions to help alleviate the issue of prostitution it have come from all sides of the political aisle. Limited legalisation and regulation has been suggested and is in practice in many states.

Stricter laws, with harsher punishments is also the go to solution for often more conservative minded individuals.

Prostitution is just one of many problems that local law enforcement has to deal with

At it’s very heart, the issue of prostitution carries with it a deep moral debate over human rights.

Organised prostitution rings often hide behind the mask of “escort agencies”, which in turn often serve as little more than a legal front for human trafficking and the systemic abuse of those who find themselves ‘working’ in that industry.

Should advertisers in the state carry escorting advertisements, knowing that the services often being provided are little more than modern day slavery?

For obvious reasons, LSNN itself will never carry these advertisements. Many wonder if it is time for other advertising platforms to take the same stance.

Comment: Who cares? Somehow those girls have to earn money, it's very easy to talk about prohibition while you earn your salary month after month without lifting a finger, legalize it and greatly improve their conditions, legalizing it the human trafficking would disappear as there would be more controls by the government, in addition to a safer environment for everyone, for both parties.

Comment: Yes, lets take the power out of the hands of independent sex workers and steal from them the relative safety that this method of advertising provides and put the power right back into the hands of pimps and prostitution rings. Sex work has existed since man could talk and taking away a safe and empowering method of advertising for sex workers will not suddenly make it go away. It'll just make it far more dangerous.

Comment: Government control isn't the answer. Although I don't condone it myself, that's my personal opinion. Let the economy speak for itself. Independent sex workers exist because people pay for it. America is about freedom.
