Funny thing is that in Vegas, it's illegal, but it's advertised heavily. Everybody knows, nobody cares, but if it becomes a problem the cops can take care of it because it's illegal. It's not illegal under Nevada state law, but individual counties and municipalities can decide to ban it in their areas. In California it's not hard to find barely hidden advertising in local papers and personals sections. There's all kinds of ads for massage, strippers, and escorts. Many ads are glaringly obvious. It was in print media, like the back pages of SF Weekly and other weird little free newspapers, but as print media began to drop off it all went online. The way advertising is done in GTAW is it's own beast and imo it can't be compared to anything irl. It's more like a business twitter or something, or ads on character's phones. It's only my opinion, but none of these ads would be illegal or even unusual in California. Sex shops, escorts, massage parlors, strip joints, and all kinds of things get advertised. The 976 sex chat phone lines do a lot of advertising on late night TV. These businesses don't do a lot of advertising on TV and radio because ads on those media are very expensive, far more expensive than print media, and now with internet, legacy media is struggling as a whole anyway. I think we'd do much better by deciding what to do OOCly, and then doing it. Some ads like "18 y/o girl looking for work" are so innocuous, who cares. I also hate seeing the "I want to buy this car" ads. I personally think the ads that appear as notifications in game should be business openings and events only. Everything else should go in a personals tab in the interface and then a NSFW tab if it's blatantly a prostitute ad. 18 year old girl looking for work is not NSFW by any stretch of the imagination, but it should go in the personals tab and not distract me on screen in game with a notification. If there's a Plague of Hoes and everyone's upset about it, I made my suggestion in the Game Suggestions thread. Now I find out LSPD already has a vice squad, except they don't do anything. I guess hoes aren't a problem then. If hoes are a problem, they can easily be taken care of by IC law enforcement because they advertise openly. If they're not being taken care of, then they're not a priority for law enforcement, and then they can't be much of a problem. Link to comment

They can handle fucking text ads! And if they can't handle text ads like Sex Shop Is Open or 18 y/o Girl Is Looking For Work, or Call The Number of the Bitch, they need to get the fuck out of here and go back to Hello Kitty Adventure Island or some shit! Not because they're not welcome, staff has already stated that there's no age restriction on the server, but because they can't handle it! I'm tired of this, if they come to play an adult game and have to play between adults, they should be the ones who have to adapt to what has already been established, not us to adapt to them, if they are so uncomfortable they should stop playing. Selling drugs to minors, murdering minors, stomping their heads and spreading their brains on the sidewalk, all of this is not at all uncomfortable, but a few simple advertisements that are texts are already awkward. I have also played SAMP when I was underage, I have seen everything and I haven't complained, and if I start banning things that seem uncomfortable for everyone, the server would be at the same level of a Barbie game. And no, we are in the 21st century, prostitutes no longer need to go to the corner to work or need a pimp, you all still living in the 80s or 90s, it no longer works like that except in exceptional cases. Cause I don't really need to know, what bar is opened and where. I just look on the map. And every add is actually stored on discord under ads section, so even if you miss an ad, you can look it up. To me ads as they are now, don't even make sense, How could my character see them? Do I have kiroshi optics implant sponsored by Arasaka so I can see stock market or something? No I don't.
