Unfortunately, ever since the advertisement update released, I feel as if moderation is missed out completely.

Maybe that is related to the new system being tailored for those who want to ignore ads, not those who want to advertise.

Of course currently you can slip all kind of stuff through unnoticed.

It took six "toggle"-ads at once so admins told people to stop those trolls doing it when the new system launched there were no punishments handed out either.

As mentioned I optically like it but ignorance is immanent in this design and thus sadly no surprise.

The counter-argument "report it" is specifically silly in this case:

Imagine seriously reporting other people for seeking contact ingame.

That's the dictionary definition of a petty report, even if it breaks the rules- it shouldn't be down to us players to point fingers at each other, it should be enforced by staff.

I'd say the issue is that the adverts are sugar coated and as per Rule 19,

It doesn't even need the new 19 for this, the ad rules alone would give more than enough leeway to tell everyone doing it off.

"Escort agencies" using business ads in 99% of the cases have no actual business, neither scriptwise nor registered ic, and thus can easily be cracked down upon by staff for using ads.

Freelancers using private ads similar can already be prohibited following the "Looking for job" clause, regardless whether it's a sex job they look for or any other.

What lacks here is as mentioned above attention and enforcement, not rules.

By using the logic employed by admins in respect to robbery, only a maximum of 800 - 900 people in the entire state of San Andreas even get to see these advertisements.

That's equivalent to someone going around and placing flyers into letterboxes or under doors to advertise their services.

I personally am not a fan of prostitution RP, but these advertisements are hardly invasive at all, assuming we apply logic consistently to all illegal endeavors.

My feelings are simple;

Advertisements from actual escort companies? Absolutely, why not? See them all the time IRL, especially in urban areas.

Advertisements from individuals that say shit like "Young sexy girl looking for any job"? Absolutely not.

The issue isn't with the escort ads, the issue lies with the people obsessed with ERP on an OOC level that are too lazy to actually make any effort towards genuine RP. It's already against the rules and admins need to take stricter action with it.

I second that.

False binary.

Governments fight this sort of business in real life with red tape. You'd think "working lightbulb in every room" wouldn't do much, but it's made an impact on the prostitution happening out of massage parlors.

For our purposes? Require a licensed business to post those ads and watch them disappear as they realize they can be tracked.

I'd like to reiterate, though, that we shouldn't jump immediately to OOC solutions when IC ones are sitting right in front of us. You can't outright ban escort companies - but there are methods of regulation still available to us that would tamp down on illicit activity.

They just have to seize the opportunity.

I definitely agree with this. Tyrannically jumping the gun to try and shut down people's avenue of fun on an OOC basis would be a disaster.

If people have an IC concern about the legality of these advertisements or their invasiveness, the licensing idea would do wonders.

In general, the representatives should host more discussions with the public (both on the forums and in game) so that ideas and opinions can be reflected through IC means (which are 100x more fun to participate in than OOC'ly dictating what and what not others should RP).

Don't kill the roleplay of people who prefer that side.

A new section for those ads should do the trick instead of completely disallowing their ads.

It wont kill the rp, on the contrary it will make it more realistic. Drug or gun dealing RP isnt dead because you cant advertise it

Posting an ad, for example "Sweethearts Escort Agency blah blah" instantly gets PD on your ass anyways. Martorano CF's prostitution ring got fucked up two times mostly because of the advertisements, and whoever else tried to do it.

The majority of the server obviously cannot be trusted to roleplay anything of the sort without overly sexualising it or advertising such services in an unrealistic manner. As much as I hate advocating further regulation, this is an unrealistically prevalent issue that is just too prominent to be dealt with purely ICly through LEO intervention.

Either add a "Personals" section to the /ads system that doesn't show up on the preview or lock the portrayal of actual escorting agencies behind admin / RPQM permissions.

Well these are basically prostitutes so I don't get it why they are advertising themselves like this. Go to a corner and hustle, I don't know how the prostitute/pimp scene is on this server but I'm pretty sure this ain't helping create that RP environment. I'm yet to see this, driving around.

100 percent in support of banning these kinds of ads as they do not promote roleplay.

The pimping scene is straight bullshit for reasons exactly like this.

People create female prostitute chars that just post ads and fuck for money, just to name change after making possible millions in profit. It's just the way it goes.

They don't actually rp on those chars apart from their escort rp, they only log on to have sex.

This hurts the pimping scene as it makes it so all girls go independant as escorts, not allowing a pimping organization and it allows for clients just to call those numbers instead of looking for a well-built and polished prostitution ring, with which they could offer way more roleplay to the server.
