Park Rangers & You

Hey Pills.

Creating roleplay is always fun to do, especially when you have a vision of something you'd like to achieve. The only issue I think with these specific scenarios is that it's often too boring/slow for anyone to participate in. Passive RP is OK, having it as your main source of entertainment - for many - isn't. However, so long as you have a select few that enjoy passive RP, that find each other's roleplay sufficient and enjoyable, that's when you really have something going on.

My personal suggestion to circumvent boredom is to have events held up there, giving the park rangers the capacity to make friends, and regularly roleplay with others.  It'd be slightly concerning as to who would attend these events, but even then, it should be fun. Maybe have some type of form where people can be shown around the wild life and escorted by a park ranger.

As a final note, I've met a couple of park rangers, one of them has to do with the Tongvans up near Chilliad, and I loved roleplaying with him, along with the natives up there. Maybe the park rangers could interact with them more often (out of a desire to roleplay). I really like the faction and the life it brings to the area. Hopefully there'd be more ideas that'd make the rangers' time more enjoyable.

We are 100% looking to include more Events in the State Parks for the community to come! We have a 'Community Engagement' section which is led by a group of members who strive off of events and reaching out to the IC community. I appreciate the feedback a lot, thank you.

Please change it from the Department of Fish and Wildlife to the Department of Parks and Recreation. LEOs employed under the Department of Fish and Wildlife are called "Wildlife officers", and there are some key differences between them and Park Rangers (with the department of parks and recreation).

Also, you guys should match the other factions and use realistic ranking structure. Cadet > Ranger > Supervisor > Superintendent (I-V) > Division Chief > Deputy Director > Chief Deputy Director / Directors of Park Operations > Director

While I agree we would fit better under those names;

We don't like doing 1:1 copy of the real life department we represent. Being a new faction, we like to come at it with our own ways, and a different strategy then the California Park Peace Officers. We are the SAN ANDREAS Park Rangers, not California. We simply attempt to mimic some of the things the California State Park Peace Officers do within daily operations. However, copying literally everything about them would only put us in a place of worrying everything they do, rather then creating our own, unique RP, that involved the real life agency, but does not copy it for a 1:1.

We are very aware of the difference of a 'Wildlife Officer',  Game Warden, and a Park Ranger, but instead we added our own unique way to present it, without making two different agencies, like California has in real life, we merged it all under one.

(I didn't name the faction originally either)

So how much of your guys focus and RP is on the wildlife side and how much is focused on normal law enforcement duties? I apologize if you've answered this already but I'm curious because from the outside looking in, park rangers just feel like another Sherriff's department to me. I'm assuming this is just an unintended consequence of establishing a new department and the addition of a whole new RP avenue in the northern area's of the map.

Obviously that isn't the intended goal of Parks Rangers and you mentioned wanting to create more unique RP for the faction, what does that RP entail and lastly could it possibly see the park rangers having more responsibilities over the other parks on the map including the ranger station north of Vinewood?

If you're talking about the Beaver Bush station, we already have that set up and running 🙂 Just awaiting some minor internal stuff. Here is a map of all the areas we currently look after, can also be found on the hunting boards. All of the highlighted areas are where we look after;

Generally all of our RP and duties are focused around the Hunting Violations and passive RP with the animals/people of the parks, however, with the amount of vehicle traffic, foot traffic and service calls at times that comes through the Parks, we are bound to have Law Enforcement Duties happen. Now, we do have restrictions in terms of a lot of these situations, however, given that we are sworn LEO's IC, there is only so much we can ignore when it happens right infront of us. For an example, our pursuit policy -- unless it is a serious crime, we tend not to pursue, and will go forth with a warrant instead, as our focus is not to be a primary law enforcement agency. Now, IC it is generally up to the Supervisor, but we are bound through OOC restrictions via LFM, and our own already, that go into detail about what 'enforcement' we should be taking part in, and when we should be taking part per say.

Most of our situations that might not be a basic traffic stop, usually end with mutual aid assistance from either the PD/SD, primarily the SD however as we work in the same 'area', as it tends to go into an investigation, which we only handle to a certain extent. We are 'independent' in certain functions, but in others, we heavily relay on PD/SD and the amazing working relationship we have with them.

If we had something like the actual GTA San Andreas Map, I think the members would have a vast more area to expand and not run into so much of the 'Law Enforcement' work per say. However, our main area of patrol is the Paleto Forest, which sits home to the Sheriffs Department, so I can see the concern of why one might think we are the same or possibly doing the same duties somewhat.

We have expanded slightly 'South' to us, which would be North Vinewood. We are completing the Beaver Bush Ranger Station, and look to have patrol directly in that park area, however, we will not be entering the City limits unless specifically requested through call of service or mutual aid. Below I will link our 'patrol map' per say, that includes all of the State Parks/Unincorporated Parks that we will make a presence at. As a general rule of thumb to our members, we have made it very clear that they should not be focusing on random traffic violations, randomized calls of service and such - that is the job of PD/SD. When we are traveling to one Park to another, we don't setup radar, nor go after a lot of the violations that happen on the roadway's. We tend to just stick to our own path and do what we need to do.

Sadly however, Hunting specifically has died down a bit compared to the first week of its release, leaving a lot of our members with not as much 'enforcement' of the Hunting Act. So, sometimes we do count on a bit more 'LEO Enforcement' through the Parks, but the members are very aware, this faction is not for constant LEO work. However with the new additions to Commercial Fishing Enforcement, it will give members a bit more of tasks to do when out in the field. I don't have an exact stat on the Hunting versus Law Enforcement work however.

The link below is our official map by LFM.

Our patrols are specifically the Parks and Forests, but obviously to get from A to B, we need to drive.

Hey Pillsbury, wanted to see what SAPR’s forward thinking is - is the forest/hunting aspect going to be park rangers’ focus for the foreseeable future or do you see expansion into, say, ocean areas? I see you mentioned commercial fishing enforcement and I know PD/SD don’t really have a dedicated presence on the open waters...do you think SAPR will be the one to fill this gap? Curious if SAPR will take an enforcement type role or will only maintain maritime operations for like, rescues and safety stuff.

Just want to get your thoughts on the faction’s future. I’ve only had a few interactions with rangers but they were all positive!

We will be indeed! We are actually opening a Marine Unit with a slight bit of dive training to include within. We look to have a full team up and going within the next week or so.

The Marine Unit will be primarily tasked with focusing on commercial fishers out in the oceans, however, will be around for assistance to boaters and those using the beaches more or less up north, at anytime. We will be training for rescue and safety procedures for boaters, incase of accidents and such. We look forward to working with the LSFD when able, due to our presence in the oceans increasing sooner then later.

Game Wardens, they're also considered state police and have statewide arrest powers and can enforce any state law.

Indeed, but I am fine with them rping park rangers, would just prefer to see it structured properly since it is similar in most states. My point had nothing to do with arrest powers or the ability to enforce the law.
