Development news : 1.1, upcoming features..

Hello everyone,

 

I thought it would be a good time to give you some news about Rage 1.1 current state and some awesome development projects we're working on.

 

Regarding Rage 1.1, we've fixed all major bugs and most medium bugs, but we still have an issue with Rage's object streamer where the object streamer sometimes stop working after loading approximately 500 objects, which leads to some interiors being half empty while mapping. It is a very critical issue for all mappers and we cannot release 1.1 with it. Rage has confirmed it is a top priority bug for them too and they're working on it. Once this bug is fixed, we'll do a last test session to confirm that nothing else appeared in the meantime.

 

For these not aware, we're also launching a french version of GTAW (strict text RP too) for the french playerbase, which will be directly launched on 1.1, thus allowing us to live test 1.1 constantly on a server and fix all the remaining small bugs before we deploy it here on the main server.

 

On the development side, here are the main projects we're currently working on:

 

1) Pool table script : The script is now finished and working, we're on final implementation phase. It'll be released with 1.1, and maybe 0.3.7 if we have time to adapt it.

2) Graffiti script : The script is also almost finalized, but requires testing / validation (especially for client performance / lightning issues) before we fully validate it. Images would have to be validated per factions beforehand.

3) Economy changes / IRS-like investigation

As previously announced, we'll be switching to a realistic usage of cash money soon : no more robbery limit of cash money, but it'll also be way less used / valuable than bank money.

We're currently finishing the updates on the MDC side to add statistics / graphs / financial warrants related to companies / bank accounts, and updating the penal code. The gamemode development is over, but still being tested.

5) Exterior kits

A feature I've been working on for a while are the exterior kits - It has required quite a lot of developpment but it's now ready to be released in the next few days. Players will be able to spawn furniture objects outside (with a warning about not impacting negatively other players' experience / remaining realistic etc.) to use it as camping kits, for small events like a neighboorhood party or dinner, etc. I'm very excited to see the creativity that will come out of it !

The furnitures are placed within a specific range of a set position, for a specific amount of time.

Due to technical engine limitations (we cannot allow -hundreds- of objects being spawned in dimension 0 or it would break the object streamer) and to avoid trolls, the feature is fully locked behing very small world points payments (15 WP to unlock a 4 hours kit of 5 furnitures, which can be upgraded with 5 WP) to ensure that it is not massively used and not used to negatively impact other players.

As I know this limitation isn't perfect, once the initial live testing phase will be over we'll also be thinking of ways to reward players / give out exterior kit tickets that you may use freely. Everything still remains to be defined, but we could think that decent roleplayers may be given freely an exterior kit ticket for their local event, etc. It'll still be heavily restricted to avoid reaching our object limits in dimension 0.

The previously golf and dart scripts showcased have multiple sync / animation issues being worked on, while the dart system will definitely come live sooner or later, the golf script has a ton of bugs we still have to face before being able to confirm that it'll be deployed. We also have ton of smaller updates that will keep being released every week as usual, but the most important was to remind everyone our current state about 1.1 and some of the main projects going on.
