We've changed sites like three times already and lost nearly all our data each time...

And with every single change and update, the site's performance was great for about a month, and then slowly died. Guess we're here again.

How do we make it so that an entire re-work like this wouldn't be an exact repeat and break down in a few months?

This is because currently any development on the framework that's build in PHP is just a matter of postponing the problems with fixes. A fix for this problem is to rebuild the complete back-end structure in order to have a solid base to continue on.

Stepping over to a framework like Laravel that gets updated and maintained occasionally is way more future proof and will ensure new updates are easier to deploy.

Making a whole new platform is most likely one of the best options here. You just have to find a developer that's up for the task for something this big.

+ 1 on the idea.
