Blackjack

Goal

The basic goal in Blackjack is getting a total card value of twenty-one also known as Blackjack. However getting Blackjack is of course not the only way to win, what you need to do is beat the dealer, which is done by either:

A - The dealer "busting," meaning that their card value totals over twenty-one, whilst you have any card total below twenty-one.

Example: The dealer has one face card and two sixes (Total Value: Twenty-two), whilst you have one face card and a seven (Total Value: Seventeen)

As you can see in this example, even though the dealer is closer to twenty-one? Since he went over it, you're still victorious.

B - You get closer to twenty-one than the dealer, without you or the dealer busting.

Example: The dealer has one face card and a eight (Total value: Eighteen) whilst you have two face cards (Total value: Twenty).

Card Values

Face cards (Jack, Queen and King) are all worth ten rather than their traditional values of eleven, twelve and thirteen.

Aces are the only cards in Blackjack that can have two different values, those being one and eleven, this depends on the other card(s) you hold, if you your cards without the ace are worth any value greater than ten it will automatically be counted as one, whilst any value equal to or less than ten will make it count as eleven. This is a constant factor, meaning that the Ace will keep or change value depending on the card you get from the deck when you hit.

Example: You have an Ace and a three (Total value: Fourteen), and you choose to hit the deck and you get a face card, in this case, instead of adding up to total of twenty four, the Ace becomes worth the one rather than eleven, giving you a total card value of fifteen.

Rules

  • Every player starts with two cards, the dealer has one faced up and one faced down.
  • Saying "Hit" means you want another card.
  • If you get dealt Blackjack (Ace and any card equal to ten) in the starting two cards, you get Blackjack.
  • If you get Blackjack you normally get 1.5 times your bet, however, it depends on Casino rules.
  • The dealer must always hit if his total card value is less than seventeen.
  • Doubling means you double your bet, however, you can only get one more card.
  • If you get two cards of the same value you may split them, doubling your bet, and you play two hands.
  • You may only split or double on the first hand.
  • Splitting on aces means you only get one more card for each ace.
  • You may double your hand on a split, meaning you can triple or quadruple your bet.
  • In the case of the dealers faced up card being an ace, players may ask for insurance, which is a side bet that allows the player to bet up to half of their original bet, if the dealer gets Blackjack, the bet gets paid back in double, if the dealer does not get Blackjack, the bet is lost.
  • If you and the dealer have cards of equal value that are no greater than twenty-one at the end of the round, you get a push and your previous bet is carried into the next hand.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial on the game. I want to start playing blackjack. I am usually playing poker, but once I was in a casino with one of my friends, watching him playing blackjack seemed pretty interesting for me. So now I am watching tutorials about this game and some tricks on how to play better. In my opinion, it is not better than poker and betting, but I should give it a try. At least I like that this game is on sportsbetter.io. This is the website where I usually make bets, and there you also have the possibility to play blackjack.
