What changes would you like to see in the economy?

I think the incoming IRS update will generally fix a lot of problems in the economy. There will definitely be a clear distinction between legal and illegal money, and untaxed currency will stay in the streets unless laundered. This opens up a gateway for white collar crime and such. I think it's good to wait for this update, and see how it affects the economy before making any other revamps.

I would just like to see a system in which niche, RP-focused businesses have a chance to survive. That's literally it. I don't mind if it's an OOC inventive, some sort of "small business tax break/benefit" or whatever you want to call it. I'm tired of there only being 3 types of player-run businesses that are viable to keep open because you can't monetize others in a meaningful way and rely on the few niche players that want to enjoy what you have to offer (which would be a legit business idea IRL and definitely breathes life into neighborhoods rather than the millionth Club of the Month).

This program is literally made for what you are describing. Applying doesn't guarantee a payment, but you should feel free to take a look.

The Roleplay possibilities that arise once the “IRS” comes into play is huge. Illegal roleplayers will need to become creative just to survive. Money laundering Roleplay will become a thing. And those without the laundering connections will be stuck being “hood rich.”

IRS should be good. I'm planning to personally join it as someone that's studied accounting.

Also, people sitting on millions is good. It prevents inflation, and keeps the economy stable. IRL this is usually handled by the government controlling interest rates, but we do not have an equivalent in GTA:W. Regardless, I doubt there will ever come a day where the server has a recession.

Upcoming IRS and cash system is a one big plus already. There was also quite a bit of fair points made by several users here, such as tax brackets, increasing taxes for properties, etc.

Unfortunately as some people have thought, GTA:W economy does not work as in real life economy. Main issue with it is that people do not spend as much in GTA:W as they do in real life. What we basically need, is the bigger sinks that would accomodate the evergoing spawning of money.

Let's start with properties.

Currently we have 2 week cooldowns before you can sell your property again. In real life, buying another property and keeping it up could be quite expensive, however, this is a game. What I am thinking is, if you are a regular Joe, regular player, not a Real Estate agency and you want to buy a second property, you should pay multiplied market price, like it was in LS:RP. But that market price, the multiplication of it? Would go to the server instead, to the void. So, for example, if property's MP is $100,000 and you buy it from a player while you have a one apartment/house already and our multiplier is for example 5 for the sake of simplicity, and player wants $150,000 for the property including the market price, you pay this: $100,000 * 5 + $150,000 = $650,000, of which $500,000 goes to the void. Commercial properties and residential properties would be a different thing and Real-Estate companies would pretty much work like supplier schemes OR you would have to apply for like a script job - realtor, that would allow you to skip the market price multiplication when buying second property.

Another thing is that leases are cheap as hell at this very moment compared to their potential.

So, currently, leases swerve from somewhere $15,000 to $30,000 for bars/stripclubs/liquor stores etc. and $50,000 for a mechanic garage, while latter is pretty much the most OP thing in the server in terms of money making.

For experienced GTA:W players, you know that you can repay entire MONTH'S worth lease in 1-2 openings. Mechanic garage? 1 good opening. I would say, average it out bit more with the leases as it serves an extremely profitable margin for players. Open every single day for a month and you are sitting on $600,000 with a simple store/bar/restaurant assuming you get $20,000 gov bonus every time you open, which is the case in 95% of the openings in Los Santos. I won't even talk about mechanic garages because that's even further up the galaxy. Make leases expensive 10 times more and you would have much healthier profit margin and higher activity or the opposite, leases would go down. It's all about finding the middle ground or establishing some rules regarding business openings, but personally, I am not a fan of OOC limitations. So better experiment with making leases more expensive. By the way, I used multiplier of 10 for the sake of example.

Script jobs should also be revamped to lessen the payout for them and reduce the grind. However, I am not quite experienced in those but I've heard trucking is mad profit when you got the highest level there, so maybe someone else will have solution for that.

It'd be interesting to see a clean/dirty cash system but I don't know how it would work given we don't declare tax, and don't really have receipts for our income - it would need serious script development. I do not really think there are many issues with the economy and I think Nervous + development team deserve credit for making it a closed economy whilst having a right balance on time spent vs. money earned.

It's planned, Nervous said something but we don't know when.

The economy is by far the biggest cause for concern on the server - not just because of how unrealistic and broken the prices are, but because it negates the entire reason why the vast majority of criminals actually do crime. Because money is so easy to come by, and that every char is essentially created with funds to live a millionaire lifestyle, it removes a whole level of realism in crime being done out of necessity and reduces it simply to a hobby.

1) Let Players pick their starting social status - On character creation, everyone is currently given a millionaires lifestyle in starting wealth. Let players pick from a variety of options - something similar to what they get now and a few scales down to completely poverty stricken with 0 starting balance.

Make age also be a factor - 14 year old kids with 200k living in Davis? Students coming to ULSA with 200k starting money? Bums living on the street with 200k and welfare checks? None of these options are the players fault, admins can and should do better here in providing alternate starting options for players.

2) Balance the economy - Make salaries and prices of high tag items reflective of the real world - everyone right now is ultra rich, and this removes the real reason for crime and means most people who want to play criminals are doing it as a hobby for their char rather than out of necessity. Give crime a reason to exist. Yes this means mortgages being required if you want to own, rather than rent a house (and a good job to prove you can pay it back).

3) Debt and dirty loansharks to actually be a thing - The average US household is in a mountain of debt. If you don't have a full time reputable job in a company / faction, then getting huge loans to buy massive assets should be difficult, leading and opening the way for more shady loan based organizations and criminal activity.

4) Stop with the socialism - This server feels far to European in it's outlook compared to the USA - this server should be portraying a capitalist America at every opportunity, not France / UK / Germany with their social welfare, social healthcare etc, etc.

5) Lifestyle cost / Tax - We don't all have to pay for those household bills / costs, but perhaps we should - add a fee to living in housing based on the properties location and size - Living costs for people in south central would be lower than someone trying to portray a character living in the hills - Make being Wealthy something to aspire too and to work for, a status symbol, rather than being a given right, even for every char who really doesn't do anything but move around from club to club.

The only two things, which can work are - the system which is coming, legal and illegal money, which is a good idea, and opens RP for IRS, et cetera. And the other one is Lifestyle costs/taxes.

Other ideas are just something, which do not depend on the server, but depend on PEOPLE PUTTING THEIR OOC TIME INTO THE SERVER, meaning how long they are online IC-ly and so. Do not try to punish people, who are more online, than others, or who pay for platinum/gold donations to keep the servers alive and the owner fed.
