Extortion isn't just a 1920's thing, and it's pretty ignorant to say that.

Pretty sure that's not what he meant. He was saying the the extortion that we see here on the server is not what we would see play out realistically, in most cases. Sure extortion still exists, but it's not common to see the, "hey you're on my turf, pay up or pay the consequences" type of extortion like you would see from years ago. Indeed there are still cases of it that can be found, but it's usually very localized and not nearly as common as it used to be. That's pretty much the entire gist of extortion RP on GTAW and it's really unrealistic to see that as the forefront of extortion. There's zero fear on the account of most people running these rackets because of reasons I said before, extortion never gets prosecuted. When you have a grand total of 3 cases involving extortion on the server, this is no longer just an IC issue. Look at what @Briutas said. He tried everything under the sun to explore legal options and it still didn't make a lick of difference. There's a disconnect somewhere.

The whole issue revolving extortion is, killing is too damn common. Easy and not frowned upon, there's no consequences to it. And it seemingly is a tool, while in real life murder is something that will eventually catch up to you. Mentally or through the law.

The disconnect is that IRL law enforcement actually tries to investigate the groups doing the extorting and on this server we are apparently not worth the time or effort. Surprise, surprise when ICly law enforcement doesn't do their job, ICly crime gets worse. It is an OOC issue, an OOC issue with PD high command and the players in the detectives bureau. If they don't wanna do it, fine. Let someone else like the DA do it. Issue is, every time someone has tried to take over doing long form investigation they get stonewalled by PD.

Nice guide, full of arguments.

No, its a very dated approach that belongs back when the Sopranos roamed the streets. It's nothing but a fantasy in this day and age. That kind of extortion will get you caught and in prison very quick.

That's a shame. This definitely is an issue that should be addressed then. Why hasn't it? What do the PD high command players have to say about it? Management? Have they said anything? Lol

Then don’t break fear roleplay and pay the amount they ask, you make enough so stop complaining about losing 5000 dollars a month.

I personally have never had issues with extortion RP, but I know there's piss poor examples. And attitude like that is probably a clear indicator of what value you bring to it.
