The Cayo Perico Heist - What we do and do not know

So I'm making this thread to talk about what we know about the coming update and a little speculation based on what we know and based on previous GTA updates. I'm going to go from top to bottom, from what's confirmed and further down the line of guessing and speculation, based on what we know.

I have re-uploaded the Facebook version of the teaser as that is currently the highest quality video.

https://streamable.com/f0fqqq

This version provides slightly higher quality and slightly less compression in comparison to other sites which isn't as important for standard viewing, but quite important for frame-by-frame editing. More on this shortly.

First of all, nobody knows the name of the island yet  the island is called Cayo Perico. There is speculation that it is called El Rubio, as per the teaser, but El Rubio sounds more like a person than a place.

Onto the island itself, thanks to the higher quality video on Facebook, and the use of both AI color correction and some light touch-ups, we can get a much better look at the island.

These screenshots don't do much in the way of telling us anything about the size of the island, but it sure is pretty. Also full of drugs, lots of drugs.

The higher quality video also provides us with a better view of the map of the island, both in standard night vision and color corrected.

Now we have a clear view on what is going to be the most useful tool for scaling the size of the island. The airfield. Following this following image, and what we know from the map, there are three runways to compare with The Island. Grapeseed, Sandy Shores, LSIA.

The LSIA runway is clearly too large and the Grapeseed runway is clearly too small. This image was created prior to finding that the airfield had two runways through the Facebook version, so it is my opinion that the island will be scaled somewhere between the Sandy Shores and LSIA reference sizes. Not bad!

Now moving onto purely user created images, we have a crude version of the map, and how it could look in-game. Provided with this image was also scaling of the island to San Andreas. The original user did scaling for all three airfields, but I will only post the most relevant ones, LSIA and Sandy Shores.

Again, not bad at all.

Another user went into more detail with a user created version of the map

I think this is the best version of the map we're going to get with the current information, and likely the best we're going to get until the full release. It uses reference images from the map in the teaser, and images of the island themselves in the teaser. Though this is still majority speculation.

As for release date? There's no way of telling. The Casino Heist update was first teased to players on December 4th last year. Now obviously, this update has been teased earlier, so we can expect an earlier release date. My personal guess would be anywhere from the 8th to 10th of December. Yes, I think Rockstar would go head to head with Cyberpunk. If not that week, then the following 15th to 17th.

Speculated vehicles could be an armed ground vehicle, some sort of aviation craft - Likely a plane. A boat, perhaps, given the islands... islandy state. Ground vehicles will likely maintain the on-going theme of high-end cartelesque behaviour. High end luxury and executive SUV, sedans and exotics. Though it's possible we'll also see Cuban/Mexican style vehicles, also given the updates location as an North/Central American island.

It's also worth noting that the last update had quite a lot of cut content, including some police elements such as flashbangs. There were also text changes relating to modifying stolen police vehicles at LSC, compared to how it was prior to the update where it just stated regular emergency vehicles. However nothing there is for certain as it was, afterall, cut content.

Ideas, speculation and more definitive information is all welcome.

Great job. Of course, supposing that this is going to be implemented in early December doesn't mean it'll be implemented in GTAW that early.

I think it's safe to assume that most of us are looking forward to discover and to roleplay in this new island, but my guess is it won't be ready before january/february to say the least? Also as you mentioned, it doesn't look like it'll be a major part of the city, but rather some drug lord island or so.

Aside from all of the above, do we know if it has some sort of port or some docks? Or the only way to get there is by plane/helicopter? Do we also know anything about where it could be located compared to the main island?

It does.

GTAW doesn't (afaik) need to implement it. Just like the aircraft carrier, or the casino. These things just became.

One can assume there will be some sort of dockyard. But assume is all it is. There isn't any clear sign of a large marina type area, as some fan speculated maps have predicted. But still, that's not to say it isn't plausible.

As for location, I have heard that coordinates in the teaser, when entered in-game are to the west of Zancudo. This would be in line with the real life geographical location of Santa Catalina.

If this island is, afterall, large enough to house a small economy. houses, businesses, then I can see a well-sized boatyard being possible. It would also create a more likely scenario that the island can be used for roleplay.

That's some FBI shit going on.

Anyway, so hyped about this map. Makes me want to get back and play GTA Online. Thanks for the topic. 😉

Rockstar Newswire on the update: https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/61795/the-cayo-perico-heist-coming-december-15-to-gta-online

Confirms new vehicles, new weapons and also confirms the island is a freeroam space in GTAO, almost confirming that it will be available as part of the standard San Andreas map.

Screencaps of the island from the trailer. It is seemingly a lot larger than some may have previously anticipated, but still smaller than others have hoped.

Some Patriot style vehicles, as well as a something reminiscent of a Willy's Jeep. (also a Dinghy armed with an M2 and a submarine)

My guess is that this won't see much use in the server, akin to places like Chumash or Rockford Hills. A sad reality, but a cool expansion nonetheless.

That depends entirely on what kind of buildings it provides. If it has a small residential area with commercial and residential buildings, it Cayo Perico could very easily house a small group of players just like, say, the Sandy Shores community.
