This thread follows the development of Iván Canó Zalaya, a Chamberlain Hills resident.

Age: 15
Ethnicity: Afro-Dominican
Backstory: Canó was born in the Bronx (New York) to a 15 year old mother raised in a tumultuous household situated in the middle of a violent street gang known as the “Trinitarios” turf. His father “Chucky” was part of it, and got into some trouble that saw him gunned down in broad daylight outside his home while both Canó and Rosalinda was home. This urged the young mother to take her son and aunt whom they lived with along with Chucky’s leftover cash and move out of the neighborhood.

A few days later, the trio found themselves in the middle of Los Santos, looking for a motel to stay at until they could get sorted out. His mother tried her hardest to give him a good upbringing, but she herself was barely an adult. She was no more than 20 years old at the time, and Canó himself, 5. This was tough on the aunt and she urged them to go back to the east coast with her while she booked her plane ticket. However, Rosa had felt inspired in Los Santos, she wanted to stay with pure conviction in that she would bring up her child here and live a happy life just the two of them.

But sometimes, well most often, things don’t go to plan. Rosa managed to find a place to stay via a dating site. The place was a small apartment in a rather raw environment in Little Seoul. The “landlord” was a young Asian-American man who actually just rented the apartment on a lease and re-rented it to them. But in Rosa’s mind, this was better than nothing and gave her peace to find a job for herself and a school for the soon six years old Canó. Through the years, she slaved at jobs trying to make a fair living while moving from one illegal lease to another until they finally settled down in Chamberlain Hills where they live to this day.

In current time Canó attends BJ Smith High School and spends most of his freetime playing basketball at the Recreational Center. His mother works a job in the city that just barely cuts the bills. Though now that Canó is of age she urges him constantly to stop being lazy and “GET A JOB” so he can help provide for the household and pay for a drivers license to eventually get a well paying job, in his mothers words. Despite wanting to help her in his mind, he feels a lackluster for working. Canó is an adrenaline junkie and at the same time, rather nonchalant about most things. Although he loves his mother to death, with her being his only family, he still doesn’t pull all the weight he could and should.
