Has anyone else noticed that legal factions have kind of sat on the backburner?

I don't mean that legal factions have been "sidelined" in the grand scheme of things. Rather, it seems like a lot of the legal factions have hit all of their objectives, and similarly have ceased many of their previous activities. About a year ago it was common to see places like Magnolia open 24/7, WE Studios had their clothing store that they'd regularly open, SenLog often had people gathered outside or made an active effort to involve themselves in external affairs. Aurum still had regular interactions with various businesses and other factions at the time, too. Even LSI had daily news broadcasts & an active array of journalists, which eventually dwindled to just a couple since the fall. Nowadays it seems like many factions have fallen into in-game inactivity, despite maintaining only a semblance of the presence they once had.

I also know that in the case of Magnolia, the faction eventually came to a close since everyone just got busy IRL, and I get that kind of stuff happens. IRL always takes priority over GTAW.

I know this is also a problem of player population, wherein it's a lot harder to find someone willing to commit to the concept of a legal faction than anything else. I know that factions like Sunset City Cabs, KOTR, ULSA, SADCR, The Diamond, & respective LEO organizations have maintained their activity, but it feels a lot like the more business/culture-centric concepts have just fallen off the radar. Just curious how everyone else feels about this, as the problem could also be that I'm typically on during "North American Timezone" hours, and not frequent over the weekends.

Hi there,

WE still open the store regularly, alongside hosting many events including the most recent Easter event alongside LS Gov, and Easter Festival with SFM, we also have regular booths at events (including the FANG BMX Tournament last night) and the PME festival this weekend 🙂 So we are still very active and around.

Guess I'm just never on for it 😭

Insider still around as well, we are a small faction, but journalism is essential for server lore imo.

That being said , there is a wider thing here I think around slow burn roleplay verses a portion of the player base always wanting activity.  I think outside of Leo roleplay, legal roleplay tends to be on the slower side of things, which for some people, they do not like OR it can be like having a second job, which puts people off.  But people like what they like.

LSGOV has been defunded, and there's no more cash to spend.

Jokes aside, there are many ways to research a faction’s recent activities and check whether their activity has declined, whether it’s through their respective faction discords, faction threads, or other portals. All of the factions listed here are still actively operating, as far as I know. Activity naturally has its ups and downs, it’s unrealistic to expect a major faction event every week. There needs to be a balance to avoid burnout while still providing roleplay not only to external faction members but also fostering it within the faction itself.

I think a lot of the lack of visual of these factions is the IRL responsibilities of those involved has taken priority. I do see the Port active, IMEX active, I did witness West Cost media doing some journalism yesterday, and I seen WE active too. It's just I think the activity drops due to people being busy IRL or burnt out and want to try something else. I don't think it's a matter of them on the back burner. Just lack of active members now and again, you know?

  • The community is growing older. Many have now jobs, families etc. Time grows more and more precious as a resource.
  • Micromanagement and rules on top of rules, on top of rules, on top of rules, kill creativity.
  • Lack of players. Everyone is a main character, and why wouldn't be. Sorry but I don't want to drive your ass around in a bus for 45k a week. LOL. It's not that epic of an experience.
  • Passive RP is slowly dying. Most of the friends I made within the past year, dropped their civilian characters to join LEO factions.
  • Many factions see their platform as a job, instead of a smaller community within the community. Safe-keeping, lack of engagement, unequal opportunities for development.
  • Lack of flexibility. People background check your character like crazy. It's easier to hop on certain careers irl, than it is on this server. And if you pick one, it stains your character for life.
  • Lastly, it's just a lot of work.

On a different note, if you think that things could be better, go ahead and give it a try.
Make a faction, try to recruit members, cope with people going inactive all the time.

Try to provide RP for everyone without getting burned yourself and invest your time in your scenario for years and years.
If that sounds like too much work, and prefer to just complain about things... then... just open your mouth for me. Big mouth... AAAAAA—
