cartii
Morningwood, Los Santos The western hemisphere of Morningwood, especially on parts like Cougar Avenue and Perth Street, tell a significantly different story to the polished storefronts and luxurious condos of the eastern side. Settled in between the tourist hot-spot Del Perro and the prosperous Rockford Hills, a part which received slow investment and minimal oversight, gave it a more worn-in and lived in touch. As decades went by, mid to late century apartment buildings have become a place which a diverse, working class population call home. Aging businesses pack the sidewalks, as well as the often graffiti-tagged walls clue to the neighborhoods deeper street culture and tension which lies beneath the surface. A filler area which is just close enough to money to see it, but far enough to where it doesn't belong. Perth Street Gangsters 13 The Perth Street Gangsters 13 originated from within the western part of Morningwood during the mid to late 1990s, starting off as just 'Perth Street Gangsters'. A timeline of events led to them aligning with the Mexican Mafia and later adopting the '13' in 2003. The gang originally composed of local teenagers from Cougar Avenue, Perth Street and the surrounding areas that were inspired by the booming tagging crews all around Los Santos. With little opportunity and minimal direction, the neighborhood quickly became a place where people had to look out for their own, and PGS was quick to adapt. Bombing up walls, alleyways and even storefronts was how the group started out, not to mention the petty crimes that flourished in the area. Once heads were turned and attention was drawn, things quickly became serious. As they finally solidified into a full-fledged gang, Perth Street and Cougar Avenue were quickly claimed as their home grounds. Reputably, the gang was always a smaller set compared to bigger names in Los Santos, but they always held their ground. PGS13 undoubtedly is notorious for their loyalty and pride in their neighborhood. Operation Cougar Cage In 2007, the Los Santos Sheriffs Department, in corporation with the LSPD Gang Task Force, launched a major operation which targeted a number of tagging crews and street gangs with the main target being Perth Street Gangsters 13. They had come to the authorities eye due to the noise being made in western Morningwood and other parts of Del Perro by the gang. The operation was dubbed 'Operation Cougar Cage', which was a coordinated thrust to suppress street gang activity under the justification of public safety and urban development of the region. The injunction named numerous PSG13 members, a number of which had a large presence and influence over the gang, which effectively prohibited them from associating themselves with others whom are involved or affiliated with the gang, loitering in the neighborhood, or even being seen wearing brands and teams that were associated with the gangs insignia. Countless apartments were raided, strike-ups and murals were painted over, and much of the small-gangs leadership were hit with federal gun, drug, and even murder charges. The operation tanked the already small-gangs numbers, which led the remaining to either lay low, or perhaps set their rag aside and move on. In the early 2010s, it may have seemed as if PSG13 had been wiped out entirely. Despite the pressure, a few heads held it down, recruiting on the low, hitting up walls occasionally, backyard kickbacks and family ties ultimately kept the name alive. The injunction might've cut the gang down, but didn't reach its roots. In recent years, recruitment has sky-rocketed and residents of the once gang ruled area are starting to see a new generation coming in, showcasing activity on Perth and Cougar once more. However, the gang remains tight-knit with old values still engraved into their lifestyle. 27 Link to comment
