Zinneera
Heya guys, So as I said in another thread, for a while I've had ideas of starting a Game Developer company in-game. My main character, Mohli Jain, currently runs (solo) an animation/3D assets company and I have a somewhat suitable Blender skill set. I've also just started learning Python for fun choose-your-own-adventure stuff / text adventure stuff. One thing I've considered is a forum-based text-adventure/D&D style 'MMO RPG'. Another idea was in-game coinciding with forum RP similar to Live-streamers and scam rp or music producer rp. Anyone have ideas? I asked a few months ago, and the ideas involving Roll20 are great, there's also Fantasy Grounds and Inkarnate, but I wanna make it more than just another D&D group. I'm taking suggestions/ideas and I'll expand upon them here, or another thread if the need arises. Thanks! 13 Link to comment
Anders
Make sure you clear your ideas (with the company) with management before hand. They are very *very* strict on ensuring that nothing transfers ooc. 1 Link to comment

One of the ideas was players have a subscription they pay weekly (or monthly depending on the payment method) and the company can release update newsletters, magazine/ads and show 'trailers' for it. The same way you'd do IRL. It'd all strictly be in-game, the question is just correlating the actual game. That's what I wanna brainstorm about! Link to comment

Hiros
It sounds like a nice idea, not gonna lie. However, from a technical perspective, you pretty much have two options: Online-based games played outside of the server (Roll20, SS13, SS14, etc.) HTML-based games (like Snake or the arcade games we have right now) While brainstorming, I figured out a potentially better way to break into the video game industry. E3-style conferences, in-game variants, game reviews—you name it. This could be either in-game or forum-based. Alternatively, here's something I haven't seen before: imagine an escape room based on a game. For example, a Half-Life-styled escape room that can be played either in-game or through in-game interactions. You prepare specific paths, "stream" the experience, and let the audience decide what to do next. However your best bet, if you want people do real-time playing and stay in character is either DnD style story or the escape room. Link to comment
Clay
Not too sure about the kind of game but it'd be nice if you create a game and it becomes something like Subway Surfers or Fruit Ninja that everyone knows of and used to compare their high scores against each other back in the day. If there's a feature like that, it can be easily corporated into people's RP 1 Link to comment
Hank89
What about a game that can be played in the game and you can invite other players to join the game? Link to comment

An escape room is a GOOD idea to try, but it'd require investment into possibly another business location as my character's office is small and only used for streaming. However it's great concept to start with. The 'Choose Your Own Adventure' format is a FANTASTIC and very doable (for me) idea. I already have a 'Vtuber' concept I can work with and I could very easily wiggle into this. A top-down perspective is also very doable. 5 hours ago, Hiros said: HTML-based games (like Snake or the arcade games we have right now) 3 hours ago, Clay said: Not too sure about the kind of game but it'd be nice if you create a game and it becomes something like Subway Surfers or Fruit Ninja that everyone knows of and used to compare their high scores against each other back in the day. If there's a feature like that, it can be easily corporated into people's RP I don't really know how to code in HTML and I only started learning python, but maybe I could make a very simple RPG in HTML? Is that doable? It may not be snake, but it could be a top-down RPG or a JRPG. Something like this? 3 hours ago, Hank89 said: What about a game that can be played in the game and you can invite other players to join the game? That would ESSENTIALLY be a D&D game, and the problem with that comes as my character doesn't really interact with others in that way, she doesn't really have a friends group large enough to pull that sort of experience off. And advertising a D&D party would be a bit odd. I haven't found a Comic Store/Video Game Store open often enough to have D&D groups either. Edited March 13 by Zinneera Link to comment
