Jorgensen
STATEMENT ON ZANCUDO RIVER SPILL Zancudo River, Los Santos County - On the 26th of January 2025, SAN FIRE personnel were on periodic Firewatch Patrol from Paleto Bay across the State Parks of Chilliad, Raton Canyon and Zancudo when at approximately 21:11 a call for service was registered about a possible chemical spill in the Zancudo River in the Zancudo River State Park bordering Fort Zancudo and the Zancudo Swamp. On arrival Deputy Fire Marshal's noted a pungent smell, often affiliated with chemical spills and the Los Santos Fire Department had deployed booms, often utilised to contain oil and other chemical spills in water. Several units deployed along the river for preliminary investigation, an air unit also deploying to case the river and surrounding area from above with units on scene for several hours. Evidence was collected as well as a sample of the water for forensics purposes, an investigation is on-going and the incident has been noted with two other HAZMAT incidents being noted within the County since mid-2024 in relation to by-product chemicals often affiliated with production of the controlled drug opoid fentanyl. At this time, SAN FIRE is monitoring the situation with water quality as well as the potential impact on wildlife and local eco-system. It is noted that Zancudo River is a fast flowing river from the Alamo Sea to the Pacific, so is expected to be minimal. However, hikers are discouraged from using the river as a source of drinking water as well as other recreational activity for the time being as assessments are on-going frequently to monitor the situation. Deputy Fire Marshals will be proactively providing presence within the State Parks over the next few weeks and the incident has also been referred to the Office of the Governer and Office of Emergency Services. Units on Scene: CHARLES 1, SAM 5, PAUL 2, COPTER 101 ### Edited Monday at 10:19 PM by Jorgensen 8 Link to comment
