Cartoonhead
Liberty city was a great map that felt busy even with minimal players around, LS is crusty and boring to play on now since it's been out for like 10 years, filled with recycled factions and rp that just go round and round and never stop. Adding Liberty city within the main server (that is totally possible now) would greatly improve the server from it's clearly aging and stagnant state, without the risk of losing everything you own in LS because you aren't on another server. The two can share an "economy" due to being in the same country so no need to worry about being broke if you moved there and building from nothing. Could even allow state to state smuggling for LEO and Criminal factions moving drugs and weapons or anything between the two states. I'm just going off what i've dug up after seeing this video in my youtube recommended but i'm sure there's other LC lovers who've seen and heard other things for or against. So feel free to discuss. How? 8 Link to comment
Fergie
Half the people on the server could barely handle the snow without lagging every 20 feet. Adding in a whole map with new assets, open interiors, etc? Nah. We tried LC. It didn’t work. Let it rest in peace. -1 Edited January 5 by Fergie 7 Link to comment
Midsummer Night's Dream
OP makes some good general points. I would highlight and expand on one in particular — namely, the benefits of a shared an economy — because having a shared economy confers unique benefits of its own. OP suggested seamless transferability. Another such benefit is the opportunity to expand money sinks. Adding LC gives the economy an opportunity for additional and varied money sinks — and not just a single money sink here and there over time, as we would normally see, but an influx of money sinks in one fell swoop (although, ultimately, this depends on how developers approach the project). Adding LC, in other words, would stretch out the economy and create money sinks to benefit the whole generally. That said, unfortunately, just as it would stretch out the economy, adding LC would also stretch out the player base and our manpower. For example, it would significantly stretch out our resources if LC were set up as another state — as an aside, this would allow taxes paid in both jurisdictions to be a money sink — because we would need another executive, legislative and judicial branch for LC. The question now, I suppose, is whether trying to stretch out and stabilize the economy is worth potentially stretching out our player base and the manpower necessary to effectively run a government? Further, it is also worth all of the other attendant issues such as impacts on performance and load times? Edited January 5 by Midsummer Night's Dream Link to comment

Yes there were some other issues, performance being one of them at the beginning but was fixed during the life time of the LC server. 1 Link to comment
AdidasKommando
I think this would be a cool addition bringing in a needed change of scenery without having to switch over to another server. I also don't think performance will suuuch a big issue, since the render distance is about 1 thousand feet, so anything beyond that from the player isn't even rendered in, atleast when it comes to rendering in players. And I think if you're in the middle of LS, the LC map will barely render in, probably just showing a mushy mess of what are supposed to be buildings until you get closer. I think if this is possible, it definitely has be tested first on the test server. +1 Link to comment

Not the ungodly amount of bugs that staff didn't even try to fix because the map was a port. (They did fix some of it, but not the problems that affected the server the most). Not to mention the server was ultimately competing against the main server, with numbers being 500+/300-. And we've had this conversation over n over about how we should bring back LC, and every time it gets' rejected because nobody wanted to spend time trying to fix the problems. Ride the bumps until the wheels fell off, honestly. I liked LC, for what it was worth. But even then, the RP was even on the wrong foot. We had 1. Kanjozoku 2. Boss of Palm Beach Russians and 3. An ungodly amount of Mafia RP. And this is just the tip. If a LC server were to work, it would have to have something aligned with it. My opinion? Set us up in the 90s/2000s. Modern NYC genuinely didn't do it for at least the more civilian of RP, compared to the city being mostly occupied by criminals. This period would put us right at the beginning of the virtual/internet evolution, where everything was starting to modernize. Give us something like that. A fresh start in unfamiliar territory for some of us. I would love to RP in the 90s/2000s New York atmosphere. But again, if the staff team doesn't think it's a good idea, 9/10 they aren't going through with it. Not that it isn't a good idea, but to each their own. +1 1 Link to comment
takethatflight
just bring back LC, LS is sort of boring and dead +1 1 Link to comment
Jorgensen
The problem with bringing back LC would mean GTAW is in breach of Rockstar's modding rules due to copyright. The server would be entering a legal minefield. Spoiler Link to comment
Io
there's already parts of LS that feel empty because there's either no active businesses there, or no faction there. if you add an entire other city to the map, that problem becomes double. -1 Edited January 5 by Io 5 Link to comment
