Why should I get unionized?

Apart from all the benefits listed above; Joining a labor union provides workers with collective bargaining power, ensuring fair wages, better working conditions, and job security. Unions fight for paid benefits like healthcare, overtime, and sick leave, while also offering legal protection and representation. By standing together, workers gain a stronger voice to advocate for their rights and improve their quality of life.

Union Provides Additional Pay for Hazardous Work Conditions

The Local 31 is proud to announce that we are providing an additional $5,000 in annual compensation to longshoremen who work under hazardous conditions, such as the maintenance crew. This bonus is funded directly by the union as part of our commitment to recognizing the risks that these essential workers face on the job.

Our union believes in supporting all members, especially those who work in more challenging environments, and this extra compensation is just one way we ensure their contributions are fairly rewarded. The union remains dedicated to prioritizing the well-being and safety of all members.

If you have any questions or need more information about this benefit, please reach out to your union representative.

Together, we stand stronger.

As a union, we rely heavily on membership fees to continue offering these types of benefits and support to our members. To ensure we can maintain and expand these programs, we are actively seeking donors who share our vision of fair compensation and safe working conditions for all. Routing: 030049994

Scott Colosimo Elected as New Union President

We are excited to announce that Scott Colosimo has been elected as the next President of the Union. In a historic election, Colosimo earned the trust and support of our members, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our organization’s leadership.

Scott Colosimo brings a wealth of experience, a forward-thinking vision, and an unwavering commitment to the Union's mission of empowering our members and advancing our collective goals. His leadership promises to build on our Union’s proud legacy while steering us toward new opportunities and greater successes.

This election follows the decision by Dominic Civella, our longtime President, to step down after years of dedicated service. Civella, who won multiple terms with overwhelming support, has been a cornerstone of our Union’s success. Under his leadership, we achieved unprecedented milestones, strengthened member unity, and championed critical issues that have shaped the Union’s reputation and impact. Colosimo’s election reflects our members' confidence in his ability to uphold the Union’s values while driving innovative change. He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and member-driven solutions.

“I am honored to serve as your next President. Together, we will build on the strong foundation established by Dominic Civella and those before him. Our strength is in our unity, and our future will be shaped by our shared determination,” Colosimo said.

We thank Dominic Civella for his years of exceptional leadership and welcome Scott Colosimo to this pivotal role. Together, we look forward to a prosperous and transformative future for the Union.

Stay tuned for updates as President Colosimo lays out his vision and priorities in the weeks ahead.
