Zuluu
Detailed Description I believe once upon a time there was a /seatbelt command on the server, I'm not really sure how it functioned or if it worked as I don't think I was even around back then. I think it'd be a good idea to add something like this back, but with some small changes made. The seatbelt should work as follows, obviously it'd save you from ejecting from your vehicle in harsher crashes, but I also believe that if it's possible to do so, while not wearing a seatbelt, the chance of ejection in a serious collision is increased, making it far more dangerous to drive without one - I also believe that if you crash your vehicle and are ejected and enter a downed state, that should incur far more harsh penalties on the character, in some cases a full on CK. The way to not get CK'd? Wear your seatbelt. While yes /seatbelt should be a command you can use, I think it should also have a different option on top of that. instead of forcing people to use /seatbelt, make it also optional to assign a key bind to put it on and take it off, because people are more than capable of taking their seatbelt on and off while operating a car to its full capacity, whether it were a manual or automatic etc... The way to balance this out so people aren't just quickly hitting their seatbelt bind to save themself as they spiral out of control into a wall, I'd recommend something of a timer, similar to how the spikestrips work, where once the bind is pressed, there's a three second delay before the spikes drop. A three second timer would also be applicable here too. On the opposite side, no timer is needed to take the belt off. Having no timer to take the belt off would mean that this script isn't all that intrusive or annoying when you're getting in and out of vehicles, as people are perfectly capable of reaching down to quickly undo their belt as they come to a stop. Also a /ame above your head for taking it off and putting it on of course, maybe even a sound cue for it clicking on or off but that's just picky stuff. Could also integrate a little light in the new speedometer saying that your seatbelt is off. TLDR being: Seatbelt key bind, three seconds to put it on, no timer to take it off. If you're not wearing a seatbelt higher chance to eject from your windshield and die, if you are then it's harder to fall out of your car and die. You cannot exit your car while wearing a seatbelt. Cops can also enforce seatbelts too. Relevant Commands/Items /seatbelt function re-added, but also a key bind that can be changed in the /settings menu. How will it benefit the server? More risk to driving like a maniac without a seatbelt on and crashing, as you get ejected easier. But you also can't just hop out of your car without taking your belt off. People rarely RP the full extent of a car accident and usually walk away from it because of how NPCing medical care works, which is fine, that's not a problem. It should be easier to die from car crashes though, and sometimes even permanently die, via CK. Edited May 29, 2024 by Zuluu 1 Link to comment
hipsxn
Pressing F should automatically remove the seat belt, otherwise I don't mind the suggestion. I wanna have the risky chance I go through my windshield at mach2 speeds 8 Link to comment
Valkyrie
This won't fix people gunning it 130 down Hawick. This will just mean that they'll put their seatbelt on before gunning it 130 down Hawick. Personally, I do not believe that this suggestion actually adds anything of real value that can't be done through a simple line of /ame, /me or /do. Link to comment

Valkyrie
Just now, Zuluu said: And what are your thoughts on the chance of ejecting and dying? Ejecting out of a car probably hurts a lot. People get put into the downed state if they eject. I do not have a strong opinion about ejections, they happen pretty often. 1 Link to comment

No. U can fly out through the window at a 40-60mph crash, because we have no seatbelt script. IRL u can survive a crash like that but since we need admins to void ANYTHING nowadays (1+ hour waiting time btw), we have to RP being fucking dead. No offense but I don’t see any logic behind your comments. Link to comment
u10sil
/me /do Things used to be a lot simpler. We don’t need a command or script for everything. 1 Link to comment
[Mort]
+1 However, make it to not WORK if a player is going above a specific amount of miles. For example, 100 or something. 2 Link to comment
