The problem with this is even the LSPD struggles to have people online at specific hours, introduce something like this and the deficit for people will only worsen. There's just no sensible reason to have highway patrol.

this argument doesn’t make sense imo, more people aren’t going to join the LSPD just because there’s no SAHP. This was fire’s argument for no other ems/ambulance services for a long time, some people genuinely don’t want to portray a certain culture

Delete Park Rangers (they're VERY useless, maybe the 2nd most useless faction after Port Authority) and add SAHP instead. +1

tell me you're a legion-centered rper without telling me you're a legion-centered rper

I'm not actively roleplaying in SASP, I have an alt that gets active every once in a blue moon, but they're as helpful as LSSD and LSPD. They have no detectives nor SWAT, sure, but they're the ones with a Maritime Unit. You might say "oh but skywake! no one roleplays in the ocean!" wrong. There has been several calls about boats being on fire or people getting lost on the sea in the past few months. Sure SD does have Search n Rescue helies, but MET are the main guys. Also the several calls about "Help I got bit!" in the county.

they're not your average forest guys who just do campfires and make sure ppl dont cut trees, they're Law Enforcement Agency, a State one; with the rights to arrest people and enforce the traffic (tho OOCly they dont do it so ppl wont say 'haha sasp = sahp' unless ure dum on the road)

There's also the civvie staff generating roleplay for the public. People keep complaining "there's no rp in the county boohoo!" when the SASP guys try/even does do that. I have fun in SASP; and I have fun while I'm on my SD character as well when I interact with them.

Back on the topic tho: while I'd love SAHP and a High Speed Interceptor Unit to bust the STX's? I feel like we do have enough LEO factions: LSPD, LSSD, SADCR to a degree, and then we got those that the general public tend to ignore: SanFire, Port Authority(again, kinda) and State Parks.

We may have a playerbase of constant avg. of 1000 daily at peak times; but LSSD also has around 420 members (alternative characters included), and that's one LEO faction alone.

SAHP has an incredibly high potential, and there’s ample of amazing things they could do. Under what leadership would that be accomplished however? Leading a LEO faction entails more than just organizing the way the highways are patrolled or state security is done. If we’re being honest, I just see SAHP creating a fourth political bubble that’ll very quickly get infested with people who don’t function in either PD, SD or SP. This happened for a time to Park Rangers and arguably nearly killed the faction.

There will always be people who can and will fulfill whatever niche you can think of. There are communities with 10+ LEO agencies. The major difference between them and us is that their “agencies” server more as divisions. You’ll have one “public safety” faction that oversees all the department (one leader). So then opening and closing agencies is as easy as throwing up a forum section and slapping some liveries together. Here we have multiple agencies with entirely independent leadership, and complex OOC politics all around with a history going back 17 years. We all love to pretend everything is and should be IC but we all know it’s not.

Tell me you have absolutely zero clue what you're talking about without telling me you have absolutely zero clue what you're talking about.

So to summarize it, SAHP would have next to no work on the highways, cause they are usually empty save for truckers and people moving bodies mafia style from the city. Whereas SASP gets lot more roleplay, because their main job suprise suprise is taking care of the state parks, jeeezus that's what SASP means? Who would've thought. Also while SAHP doesn't exist on the server, their job is largely covered by LSSD. Just drive outside of the city and you see LSSD parked on the highway or SASP flashing at you once you leave the highway. Also the way I see it, creating yet another LEO faction would mean an influx of players into said faction for a month and then sudden drop of activity, when people get bored of it.

The introduction of SASP, SFM, and to a small extent, SADCR/SABI (?) did not increase the number of LEO units on the streets. If anything, their introduction made little change on the field as the ratio of LEO members on the streets is more or less the same-ish.

Instead, you might retain more players in the server because they have more LEO options to join and RP with.

Not everyone likes RPing under LSPD/LSSD, whichever reason they have. They join other niche LEO factions instead of leaving the server for good and that's, in my opinion, a view we should commonly hold.

Calling certain factions as 'useless' is unfair. Their existence will not hinder your RP in any way. Having different factions for a different environment for players to roleplay is fair.

SAPR does patrol the "unincorporated areas" of LS County which is normally a highway patrol/state police thing so I see that point.

However, reaper is right. Traffic crime is a huge thing here. It breaks the immersion in GTAW significantly. Everyone loses their shit when someone pulls a gun on someone beating them to death (unrealistic escalation meeeeh!!!!) but they shut their eyes to someone doing 120 down Legion Square to get to the night club.

My vision for highway patrol was always that it'd be a narrowly tailored traffic enforcement department. That way, it wouldn't take away from SAPR/LSPD/LSSD's jurisdictions and besides, the way things are set up now, PD and SD's traffic units are simply not that capable at dealing with traffic criminals all the time when there’s always hot calls blaring over the radio. We do our best, yes, but having something that directly addresses traffic crime—one of the biggest immersion breakers in this community—would deal with it so much more effectively.

PD/SD are both more than capable of handling traffic related crime. the issue with traffic lies within the amount of leniency given to people that routinely drive without care. why would they drive realistically when their license is taken for a few days or if they've got 3 more cars to evade in. the insane amount of reckless driving is a problem with people's ooc mentality. this is evidenced by how often people are driving 100 through the city and slamming into a scene and going "sry just loaded in" and it's voided.

gta world is a sandbox playground for people to evade cops in over the smallest infraction so they can up a cool montage of them evading. creating a new faction just to play cat and mouse isn't gonna fix anything.
