I usually don't really chime in on these things, however, I do wonder, which tools are exactly missing which allows you to investigate someone or something properly?

Furthermore, most police vehicles are able to keep up with sports cars just fine, you have the Police Buffalo and the Police Torrence, which both have great power and top speed. You can also resort to other tactics rather than speeding through the city chasing a car with 120mph because they failed to yield at an intersection.

Lastly, have you done any research anything about hood/gang culture? It is so common for the police having to deal with teenagers driving stolen Hellcats/Trackhawks. They'd be stupid not to drive one in-game either since you have powerful police cars that are deployed almost every vehicle pursuit (talking about the Torrence). The chances of getting away in any other car that isn't a Buffalo STX is almost impossible because of it...

Though, Sheriff's Department are probably more familiar with the gang culture so I won't blame you for this.

If there is a way for me to show you just how disadvantaged every cop is in terms of cars, I'd love to have you drive one of our marked units and try to chase a modified civilian vehicle. Please hit me up at Boland#7658 and we'll make it happen.

I am not entirely convinced I understand the proposal made in the initial post. When you say that muggings are rife due to a lack of accountability, what exactly do you mean by that?

Oh, this person was robbed because you weren't patrolling that street at that precise time! Have a suspension!

I understand that people can get mugged in areas that are seen as "quieter", but does that mean a cop needs to be suspended every time somebody finds themselves at gunpoint in an alleyway? How are you even going to enforce that?

not sure how people can expect cops to patrol every crevice and street city-wide. there was times that I'd stick to what's considered the nicer areas of the city, where the supposed muggings are happening that cops aren't around for and it was boring as fuck. you can only run laps around those areas so many times before youre sick of seeing the same things over and over

the fact of the matter is, the further south you go, the more shit you get into. if there was more meaningful rp situations in some of these neglected areas, I would have gladly patrolled it more often. other than gangs that've claimed their turf somewhere up that way, the only people I had to interact with were street racers, prestige models and car dealership owners - I could only do that once a week otherwise i'd have gone completely fucking mental

ultimately, this seems like something that could be tackled IC - there's always the option of reaching out to the police department or city government

As always some people simply believe, that LS is LA, which is not. Simply because of playerbase and players online at any moment. That aside, it honestly depends on priorities. It's roleplay after all. Bureaucracy is rather tricky to roleplay, because honestly most of it happens on the forums. Your character sits on their office working, while player is actually alt tabbed, on the forums working on said request from someone else. People say enforce changes IC for this and that. Paddy asked the right question here. How are you gonna enforce that, when everything depends on numbers of players online at any point throughout the day or night?

We don't have millions of citizens, our population is displayed right there, when you press F1, players online.

  • Should LEO's patrol all of LS, yes but equally because of the multiple reasons that have been outlined in this thread it isn't always possible to do.  I.e player volumes vs call volumes vs call types vs panic alarms vs LEO operating parameters.
  • Should the LEO factions be held accountable IC'ly.  Yes, to politicians.  Could this be better implemented in game, Yes.
  • Are we restricted by what is reasonable within this being a game? Yes.

The short version, the current level of accoutability isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, however, because of the OOC limitations with this being a game for everyone and not a full time job, it will never be perfect.

Sounds like a skill issue, cop cars already have superior handling and acceleration compared to your average civilian car

This is blatantly untrue. LEO Buffalos and Torrences have the same performance as the civilian version. Maybe Scouts and Victors might be faster, and that's only a maybe because literally no criminal evades in a Scout or Victor so I have no idea how the civilian versions look like. Everyone's got a Sultan or better nowadays.

When you have dudes evading in a Rebla, which isn't even that fast of a car, good luck keeping up with it. In a straight line, that big ass SUV smokes any car LEOs have.

if you lose someone with a torrence, helicopter and teamspeak combo then idk what to say.

You know it isn't difficult. It's called render distance. At certain distance objects will just dissapear from your screen, especially those added onto a server by a client. So say a car already runs faster than the patrol car, if patrol fails to match it's speed, once it's crosses the render distance treshold, the evading car just dissapears from cop player's screen. I mean that's how some people evade. They don't evade because they are better drivers, they can evade because they know how connection speed works.
