Zenko
CHAPTER TWO - PRESENT Marine Convoy Ambushed Near Fallujah: 2 Marines Declared KIA in Deadly Clash REDACTED BY: By William O'Ghellen, War Correspondent ~ 03/12/2012 ( The picture above was provided by a drone operator surveilling the initial point showing four HUMVEES and a military truck, in between, carrying a trailer) 12th of March 2012 – Fallujah, Iraq ~ Two U.S. Marines that were part of a squad part of the 32th Battalion assigned to the 15th Marine Division were killed yesterday when their convoy was ambushed near Fallujah. The Marines from Battalion 32nd were transporting vital equipment between bases when they came under heavy fire from a group of armed militants that were using automatic rifles and multiple grenades with the intent of seizing the equipment that was to be transported. The ambush began with an improvised explosive device detonating beneath the lead vehicle, disabling it and halting the convoy. Almost immediately, insurgents launched a coordinated attack trying to flank the marines using height to their advantage. The Marines responded with precision and force, engaging the attackers in a fierce firefight that lasted approximately 30 minutes reporting that ten insurgents were killed in the clash, and the remaining attackers retreated. “Two of our own made the ultimate sacrifice.” said Sgt. Mathew Rivera once safely out of the ambush. “They displayed exceptional bravery under fire, and their actions helped prevent further loss of life.” The names of the fallen Marines are being withheld pending notification of their families. The convoy was transporting essential military equipment crucial for ongoing operations in the region. The city, Fallujah, roughly 40 miles west of Baghdad, has seen a resurgence of insurgent activity in recent weeks, despite efforts to stabilize the area. For now, Battalion 32nd mourns its losses while remaining steadfast in its mission to maintain stability and combat insurgency in one of Iraq’s most volatile regions. © 2012 Los Santos Times.
