In the 1950s the communist authorities in Romania nationalised the vineyards and the liquor trade. It was also decided to limit alcohol consumption through rationing measures. The measures taken in the late 1950s by the communist authorities in Bucharest did not have the desired effect. The harsh licensing regime for legal alcohol distributors shifted consumption from bodegas and bars directly to the black market. A decade later, the biggest underground alcohol business in the history of socialist Romania would begin. It was called, briefly, the "Bahus business" and was set up by Gheorghe Ștefănescu, the manager of a wine warehouse in Bucharest, near the Basarab Bridge on Calea Griviței. The method was disarmingly simple: Ștefănescu worked directly with the vineyard at Cotești, where production was reported to have been reduced by invented calamities. The unsold wine was processed by Ștefănescu's network and sold with a certain quality standard, although it contained additives. Between 1971 and 1978, according to estimates in the communist press, more than 400,000 litres of wine were smuggled into circulation. Ștefănescu is arrested in August 1978 and almost 19 kilograms of gold and several million lei are found in his house. In April 1980, Ștefănescu is sentenced to death and executed on 4 December 1981. Unofficial estimates of the damage done to the Romanian state by Ștefănescu's network put the figure at almost $5 million in the 1970s. In 2010 Viorel Balint received the nickname Bahus in Jilava prison from his older cousin, Ion Balint, known as Nutu Camataru. Viorel participates in the illegal production of alcohol inside the prison, giving good results with the Mararu brothers, who also showed him the secret recipe.

OOC INFORMATION Our aim as a faction is the portrayal a genuine Romanian "Brigadă" ran by a "Familie interlopă", a family involved in criminal activities of Romanian origins. We follow the culture and ethics of Romanian criminal groups, but not only, we also try to follow the intriguing and harsh reality that Romanian immigrants have to go through. We've done countless hours of research on the subject and we will make researching Romanian criminal activity a tradition within or faction so we could improve upon. We have inspirational sources for potential members and our members are not shy to coach beginners who aspire to become members of this faction, we're always. If you'd like to participate in this project, please don't hesitate to contact us over Discord @ Alexx#9061. Participation in this faction is subject to the illegal factions' guidelines and we have the right to CK. We encourage Romanian characters of any origins, such as Moldavians, but we also welcome other Balkan and Eastern-European ethnicities to join us due to the not so strict nature of Romanian criminal organizations regarding ethnicity.
