El Hoyo Maravilla is the most notorious and considered the originating Maravilla gang. It's physical location was referred to as the hole because of the lower terrain in which it was situated. Tracing it's roots to the 1920's and having the distinction of surrendering 17 members to the Mexican Mafia ranking. The Maravilla gang is recognized for their contribution and their resistance to the Mexican Mafia. From the mid 1950's to the 2000's there has existed a dysfunctional love and hate relationship between Maravilla and the Mexican Mafia. The love began in the early years following the formation of the Mexican Mafia, Maravilla gang members were one of the first to come on board. The first prison death by the Mexican Mafia was carried out by a member of Maravilla. In early years the largest numerical Mexican Mafia representation in Los Santos prisons were from the various gangs of Maravilla and as such they were held in high esteem and they considered themselves self appointed emeseries of the chicano prison population. High ranking members of the Mexican Mafia from Maravilla were later supplanted and resented their now subservient role on the yard. After the incident relations between the Maravilla and the Mexican Mafia soured. Stabbings and feuds became more recent and Maravilla members were now joining the newly formed Nuestra Familia, later retaliating against Mexican Mafia members. The Nuestra Familia ties didn't last long. Convicts from the Maravilla were getting released and the older members began to spread the anti Eme sentiment within the Maravilla neighborhoods. Members are proud of their Maravilla roots and were close nit with each other, believing the reports of La Eme declaring war on them. Since most members of La Eme at the time were originating from the Maravilla they refrained from placing the green light on them. In the early 1990's Maravilla gangs openly claimed their oppesition to the Mexican Mafia, calling themselves Maravillosos (The Marvelous Ones), using ''Tax Free'' in their gang graffiti. The Eme swiftly replied to the claims, targeting Maravilla members throughout the prison system and turning all Sureno gangs against them. Los Santos Central Jail began to house Maravilla gang members within their own module, to decrease the violence. A member of the Maravilla gang was asked to attend a meeting held by La Eme to discuss the unification of gangs for the purpose of halting drive by's. It was discovered the MV member came armed with a pistol, leaving the Maravilla's on the green light list. Maravilla was officially brought into the fold in 2000 by Fernando 'Spider' Perez from Arizona Maravilla, a very senior Mexican Mafia member. Perez was transferred from state prison to LA county and was able to use his considerable seniority to begin the process of conciliating the Eme and Maravilla, and having Maravilla removed from ‘the lista’. For 20 years, Perez has ruled over an empire of all the Maravilla neighborhoods in East LA, who are considered Sureños and are with the ‘program’ (which includes paying tax). Despite Spider's efforts, there are still a few remaining opposers to the Eme rule, those few remain on the list. Due to Spider's success he gained control over all territories of the Maravilla, all from within his prison cell on death row. Fudge Lane MaraVilla consists mostly of freshly inducted members, whilst only having a handful of veteranos at the gangs command. A new clique called Fudge Lane Locos (FLL) has emerged, showing more and more activity every day. You have members that drug deal, not only in East LA but now using their social media platforms to venture out and orcestrate deals. This comes as no surprise as most of the gang members are now of age to Legally drive. Some are more ruthless as they would plot, then finally hold their victims at gunpoint. The gang exercises in a mix variety of low and high level criminal activities with some having already paid the price for this. Any member that had to do time would fall in line and programme with the Surenos up state. This is after the green light era when Fernando 'Spider' Perez, a high ranking La Eme member helped get MaraVilla barrios taken off the lista (No longer greenlit) and brought back into the fold in the 2000s. A FLL gang member would normally be identified by the black bandana rag they would carry, worn mostly around the neck or around the shoulders. The clique also represents their set by wearing Atlanta Falcons & Miami Marlins sported hats, signifying the F and M.
