They advertise as a quick energized way to start or end your day before/after work. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Appearance From the outside, it appears to be your typical coffee shop. Your quick grab and go to start the day or maybe on a lunch break. I will say once you step inside, though? The vibe of comfort instantly smacks you in the face. They play soft melodies for a nice behind the scenes ambiance. You'll be greeted as soon as you walk in by dim lights, wonderful decorations, and many plants which make the place appear more lively. The counter and coffee station is located in the back of the store which I thoroughly like. I think it gives you time to look around the place to lay eyes on your perfect spot before settling down! Honestly, the seating is great. It's as if there is little stations all around the building. They have an area for individuals to sit on their own, perhaps to just enjoy themselves and settle back or bunker down into some studying. They also have several spots around that if you've come for a business meeting or with friends that you can sit at a table or along a nice comfy couch. If it wasn't enough for you to just come here on your own and kind of chill out, they have an area that is cluttered with some computers that are nicely spaced out from one another. A little internet café area, if you will. I think my favorite part about the whole place is the bookshelves that have an abundance of books adorned over the shelves. Then, a very nice comfy couch is perfectly placed in the middle of it all for you to read your heart away. I could really see myself coming back here for the comfort of this café alone. Staff The staff was beyond great. They all had welcoming smiles and made sure to know you were seen. The women that waited on me seemed to be intelligent on the menu which is all you can really ask for when you're visiting a new place. They were also dressed very laid back with a nice touch of business casual which I think was comforting for the vibe of the place as a whole. Something that I really caught onto though was just the enjoyment of them being around each other. You could tell these girls loved their jobs and quite possibly were friends outside of the work place. It was enjoyable to see them just like the company of one another. Campese's from my last review could really use some tips from these girls. Maybe, they should stop by and shadow proper staff! Cuisine Let me just say. I am a huge caffeine fiend, especially with all the crazy work I have in my life. The variety of your caffeinated drinks were pretty typical to that of a normal coffee shop. My coffee was good, it was nothing out of the ordinary or amazing by any means. If you aren't interested in the caffeine side of things, there is also non-caffeinated drinks. As before like the coffee, it's normal, nothing special, but nothing bad. I think that they could really elevate they drink selections by maybe adding in something special for specifically the coffee shop or additional flavors. If you're hungry, no fear they also offer bakery items and a few sandwiches! I originally had ordered just a plain croissant, but the woman ended up giving me a bagel. As I'm not one to complain with a very basic mess up, I just happily took the bagel instead. Maybe, it was the universe telling me that's what I needed instead, because it was great! I was pleasantly surprised with the food selection and the taste given a little bit of the let down on the drinks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating 4/5 Overall, this coffee shop really made me feel great about being there. I was extremely surprised on how well constructed it was on the inside and they really hit the typical café and more on the head. The staff was incredible and over the top welcoming. As mentioned before I'd like to see some drink improvements, but that is a personal opinion and the caffeine did the job that it came for, anyway. I will be coming back here with no doubt. I can really see myself curling up with a good book near the bookshelves or pulling out my laptop and diving into some work at one of the desks. I'd also like to note that they give 50% discounts to USLA workers/students as well as GOV employees. They appear to give off an Authentic Italian cuisine vibe... I will assure you that won't be true as we move forward into the review. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Appearance From the outside, it looks clean. It's a nice little area with not a far walk from the beach. I will point out, though not a huge factor. I think it'd be a very nice touch to add outdoor seating to the area. It has the space for it on the patio and given that it's close to the beach in the summertime? No brainer. Although, the exterior was decent and no real complaints there the interior? It's lacking... Severely. As soon as you enter the establishment you are greeted by a close tight narrow hallway. There is no podium to be seated and no real sense of direction on what you should really do. If you take a quick look around, you can notice a counter at the very front. It seems that you'd walk up there and order, yes? No. You are to sit, anywhere you'd like and then await for your extremely rude waitress, that I'll give details on later. Tables and chairs are nearly shoved up against each other, so you can nearly touch your neighbor... Nothing like rubbing elbows with a complete stranger and hearing every moment of their conversations! Do not fear, though! The god awful typical Italian Soprano's music is blasting your ears amongst drowning out the strangers one inch away from your table! This building has the capability of being much better with the right design/layout. I'd like to see this place get some renovations in the near future. Staff The staff is ultimately one of the worst things I have ever encountered in LS and that's saying a lot. It's not saying much considering the only staff that I saw for a whole restaurant was one woman, I should say girl considering how childish she acted. Her attire was purely unorganized and didn't look the slightest bit put together. I'd expect from a sit down restaurant that you'd wear some kind of uniform or at least appealing attire. She may as well went down to the local Mirror Park pub and jumped behind the counter to serve up watered down shots. Moving on, her whole demeanor gave off very much hating her own life. She was rude for zero reason with no instigation from anyone at all. I don't think I saw her smile once nor did she give out any type of compliments or real conversation. I think the icing on the horrible attitude cake is the fact that she clearly knows not a single thing about Italian cuisine or the very own menu that they serve there. I'd rather of listened to a hood rat hit on me and attempt to grab my number then to hear her whine and know nothing about food ever again. Cuisine Now, let's talk the most important thing about a restaurant. The food, you're hungry. You're ready to eat this creamy, rich, and well seasoned Italian food, right? No, I hope you aren't because it's simply not delivering here. On top of the horrible waitress knowing nothing about their own menu, it's also EXTREMELY hard to read. It's blurry, the font is WAY too small and you can barely even see what each item is. So, maybe I'll cut her some slack since it's not her fault that we all can't read in 0.5 font. Once, I got my food only five minutes after ordering? It was screaming microwaved. How else would they whip up an Italian piece of garbage in that timeframe? Not only did the food make my stomach turn and instantly make me puke in my mouth, but it looked like a pile of grease. I can only imagine what non-authentic chef they have in the kitchen, if any. Lastly, extremely overpriced for what it is. It needs improvement in every aspect other than the exterior looks, which I guess they can bless the old owners for. I wouldn't even waste your time or money at this joke of an establishment. I highly recommend not going especially if that horrible waitress is still tending as staff. They should really look into screening or listen to their customers. I've heard numerous bad things about this place especially pertaining to the rude waitress that I encountered myself.
