I take exception to a few key aspects of Phantom’s communiqués. Just so you know, I plan to spend a good deal of this letter discussing Phantom and his lusk diatribes. I also plan to say a bit about how Phantom rejects the search for a just and comprehensive solution to social problems, but I’ll save that part for the end. In what should come as a surprise to almost nobody, if Phantom wants to be taken seriously, he should counter the arguments in this letter with facts, not illogical panaceas, personal anecdotes, or insults. As my mother used to tell me, The only way that we can fight Phantom, the only way we can beat him, is to rail against the pseudoscience that attempts—and continually fails—to prove that uplifting individuals and communities on a global scale to tackle the multinational death machine that he is currently constructing is something to be regulated, policed, feared, and controlled. To the best of my knowledge, we mustn’t tolerate the likes of Phantom. Now that’s a strong conclusion to draw just from the evidence I’ve presented in this letter so let me corroborate it by saying that I am truly at a loss for words when Phantom asserts that my bitterness at him is merely the latent projection of libidinal energy stemming from self-induced anguish. He can’t possibly be serious. I suspect that the real story here is that when Phantom was first found substituting breast-beating and schwarmerei for action and honest debate, I was scared. I was scared not only for my personal safety; I was scared for the people I love. And now that Phantom is planning to obstruct important things, I’m downright terrified. In a nutshell, Phantom is complicit in a system that has long inflicted structural violence upon the Third World poor.
