  1. "Your character owned / earned them and that's the simple reasoning behind my suggestion" Yes....but also no. My character did not earn everything that was mapped in his house as a result of me purchasing platinum. People who purchased exclusive cars through last years charity fundraiser did not earn those cars either. Those are just two examples of a very small ability to pay for certain things. Which is why I would argue that even if this idea were popular, its chance of being viable would be very slim. Ideas that jeopardize the revenue streams which keep the lights on around here simply do not get implemented. This would absolutely disenchant some portion of the population that is paying IRL money for specific in game benefits. "However, it will force new characters to find IC ways to enter the markets of whatever they'll require." My characters home has never influenced who I RP with. If I lived in Mirror Park or Rockford Hills, I would still be RPing with the same group. And if my characters home were taken away, I would still just wait to find another one in the general area I like - be that Los Santos or Paleto Bay, etc. The same can be said of cars. My character drives a Cheval Surge. There are beater cars that cost more than it. I'm not saying I'm exceptional at RP, but of the people I RP with regularly who I do find to be exceptional at their RP...neither their cars nor their homes are what makes them good RPers. And neither of those things had any bearing on the IC interactions that created our characters relationships. If you have someone hoarding old illegal guns from an old character, that's another situation where I don't understand how those will be useful until you develop the complex relationships / gang affiliations / etc to actually have them be of use again. Anyway, I am sure you're not alone in your desire, and I commend you for outright calling yourself out on it being a dissenting opinion from the getgo. I just wanted to give my perspective / devils advocate stance on why I do not see the same benefits that you did @Narcan - as well as what I consider the death blow to even popular ideas....anything that might harm the revenue streams which support this place.
  2. Surely this has to have been an accident in importing to the wrong categories. Hopefully this gets fixed.
  3. I'm aware of at least one other person that has some visual impairments on the server. I myself play on a very large TV....sometimes because I want to, other times because when I drop to 1080p on a 52 inch display I can actually see things better when my eyes are acting up. The below screenshot is a perfect example of white text being unreadable for some people in light areas, and dark text also suffering the same in dark backgrounds. Anyway, with that preface, I think that at minimum, having the option to turn on a semi-transparent background that contrasts well with all the colors...something similar to a frosted window pane, would be a good option to let those of us with poor eyes toggle on and off. Ideally, being able to control the width of the black shadowing around the text would be excellent - that is, to at least have an option of making it triple its current thickness. In cases of dark text like /b ... the option to have the outline be white, or again change the font color, would be immensely helpful for those of us with not as good vision. If there is a config file where I can change color values myself on the client side with respect to my own gameplay that would also be immensely helpful. Thank you for considering this idea!
  4. If Everett/Panda were to allow it and you want help, I'd love to see if I'm useful there. C++/Java/Python experience here, with limited HTML & JS A request to completely redo the calendar system in game. It wouldn't even need to be UCP shown since if it's a public resource that anyone in the world can subscribe to, you could literally have GTAW calendar events on your real google or iPhone calendar on your phone. This could also help businesses in the sense that if you know you are going to open at a certain time in the future, you can, on the "open businesses" calendar, post future hours. Which can help people plan on playing at times when they want to go to those super unique businesses that are almost never open. Which might have a positive feedback look to where then those businesses open more and more because they see people actually coming to them.
  5. When I look at the entire months calendar in game, there are currently three events. If we take this to be an average, the calendar as implemented is making about two, maybe four specialty cups of coffee a month in revenue. It looks like at one point, from this post, cost per post was reduced to 10WP, but I'm wondering if that ever even caused an uptick in its usage? With it's low utilization and insignificantly low revenue stream, I really think it should be redone. Personally, and especially with CEF, I would propose a complete overhaul of the calendar system. Key features currently missing are: A personal calendar for a player to add their own events to. More prominent placement of the calendar. Replace the calculator button on phones with a dedicated calendar button to bring it out of hiding. The calculator does not bring revenue to GTAW or immersion to the game. The calendar does....if people would start using it. Separate calendars for categories. Eg: Entertainment/Stores/Restaurants/Community Events/Nonprofit/Hours of operation A tiered purchase system for calendar events. Personal calendar events cost nothing. Community events & nonprofit cost least WP, if any. Stores/restaurants cost medium WP. Event/entertainment/cover charge events cost high WP. Improperly posted events are encouraged to be reported like any other abuse on the server. Between CEF, Googles APIs, and very generous limits on calendar thresholds, this entire thing could live inside of a single Google Calendar on a free gmail account and be scripted into the game. On any well established personal (read: Free) google account, you can make 60 calendars every. hour. There is no publicly disclosed limit, but I can personally tell you I've gone over a thousand without issue when making service accounts for organizations with thousands of employees on google workspace. You can create thousands of calendar events an hour and still be under the API limits in google calendar. And while the below example looks cluttered....in all honesty, if the calendar actually starts being used? I would hope to see quadruple this amount of information on it. Which is where something that scales through profiling events by category or interest becomes important. I personally think this is needed because calendars like this can also be publicly shared with trivial ease on the forums, or in the UCP for personal ones. The discord bot that posts IC ads is a good start at bringing the immersion out of game. It is a good tool to help plan playtime around events that are interesting to the specific player. I think this is a logical next step in that. Integrating in this manner would also allow people to share calendars of interests to their own personal calendars if desirable, which would make it much easier for people to think about things OOCly in their own timezones and not miss events since shared calendars would adjust to the end viewers timezone. Public links to subscribe to public categorical calendars could easily be made available in the UCP or on forums. it would be a static URL that need not ever change to attach the calendars of interest to any players own personal list of calendars they can see.
  6. I support this. I don't know a single business IRL that has employees randomly place ads with their own numbers. Business phones would greatly help with realism.
