  1. One's been established as existing in the server universe, and one hasn't. As discussed before in the thread, roleplay ≠ realism. Roleplay is determined by how a player exists within an established in game universe, and their quality of behavior within that sphere. It is almost a strictly GTA RP thing to want to emulate IRL so bad. Imagine RPing in a Fallout game and being like, "Why should we even have glowing rain when it doesn't exist IRL? ?" when it's been in the universe since the first game. and what's up with the defensive sarcasm my man, there something you need to talk about?
  2. East of the Cascades, especially where I live, is a desert, with its own variants of cacti. It often snows at least a meter (3ft~), and was at even 4pm when I started to reply before I had to excuse myself, below freezing. In the summer you can easily see it nearing 40°C (100°F). Desert doesn't mean no snow. California follows this rule, though most of the state is on the windward side. San Andreas is about split in half, with some liberties taken, obviously. States that are split in half like that (Washington and Oregon especially) have much larger snowfall on the leeward side of the state. In any case with this whole thread, San Andreas is San Andreas, California is California. It is an emulation, but distinct. The entire game is inspired by but an interpretation of a real life place. The same can be done here. So it might be hot like California, but it's not California. It's not even the Los Angeles area, it's Los Santos and surrounding areas. A distinct entity. That doesn't mean it's impossible that it snows. Everyone talking about roleplay standards, I know what you're saying, but this event isn't gonna turn the server into The Purge. A week or so of intermittent snow isn't the end of the world. Roleplay quality is. Work on that. If it snows, and people are driving convertibles in sandals? Work on that. That's making sure the environment is better for everyone, year-round. Opposing snow for roleplay reasons isn't gonna change the quality of the server. Making sure that people roleplay to a high degree with what they're given is.
  3. Like a lot of people have added since I started my post, yeah. We refer to it as San Andreas. As Los Santos. Not California. Not Los Angeles. Respect the origins, but liberties can be taken. Kinda like how a lot of factions use European date standards, or the server time doesn't emulate US West. ?
  4. I think it's fair to suspend realism for a spell like some suggested, considering it is a game. Last year's snow was wonderful and I would love for that again, but since there's a lot who don't want it, a compromise should be reached. The holiday season is beautiful, and many people use the game as a way to experience a different reality (or escape from it), not to perfectly emulate it. I can be a roleplay nazi myself, but snow is not that big of a deal. Just because we can't have it localized, as it would be IRL, doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to experience it at all. There are bigger things to fix as far as realism than weather, believe me. Just make sure that people are roleplaying accordingly during the snow and we're all fine. ?
