Okay, is this a new meta? I've responded to two or three hostage situations over the Christmas period, and each time it was a robbery where they took their victim out into the county.

It’s not a new meta, it’s been going on for a while. Ever since they banned robberies via dirt bike and all that. But yeah, it’s ridiculous.

Great progress has been made so far, but progress isn't progress unless there is a solution. I anxiously await an official ruling and I hope it's favorable for everyone. This isn't just a neutral roleplayer issue, as much as the thread's about it. Bad crime roleplay/crimegrinding negatively impacts illegal RP just as much, if not more- because it forces an 'us versus them' mentality upon those who are sick of it and assume all criminal roleplay is like this. Make no mistake: that was me a few months ago, until I left PD and tried it out myself. I then realized this wasn't a criminal roleplay problem, this was a shit roleplay problem. Please - for the sake of the future of GTA: W, start handing out harsher punishments for intentional rulebreaks and give us some low-crime or robbery-free areas we can RP in.

      thanks

What amazes me the most is that we have an extraordinary amount of people who all agree there is a problem. That has to be the single most telling thing in this thread. We’ve made it past the usual issue and reached a tipping point where people are just tired of this situation. 20 pages. TWENTY and we’re still discussing this in a civil manner.

Id say if that’s not a cry for change that signals something is really wrong, I don’t know what is. Thanks 🙏

i have a pretty simple solution guys. don't create characters that are your avatars and go clubbing because you can't do it irl. create meaningful roleplay instead of focusing on being the top dog aka mr everything aka i work juggle 3 fulltime jobs and still have time to go clubbing or robbing people. don't be afraid to roleplay a character that isn't a 1:1 replica of your favorite celebrity. high crime rate isn't the problem here. it's the quality of roleplay presented by certain groups and individuals & IFM seemingly doing little to nothing to counter it because this server doesn't have any set it stone rp standards and i've been saying this for nearly 6 months now. rule 0 is the biggest issue here.

Big time agree. It’s the QUALITY of the RP that’s the issue. That and I’m convinced that a majority of robberies are OOC’ly motivated. There are some great illegal RP’ers out there but they are overshadowed by the script item hunters hiding behind their wall of “it’s for the RP”. No it’s not. Trucking makes this glaringly obvious. It is known that truckers don’t have to carry cash anymore but they are frequently targeted anyways because why? People assume they are carrying guns and/or drugs. This isn’t an IC motivation in most cases. Going on convoys to rob truckers is ridiculous. Sure it may happen, but not DAILY. This isn’t the 50’s where you’re robbing bootleggers for their stash. I’m not sure there is a fix to this either. You can’t change a mentality that’s far too gone at this point without some major and potentially upsetting changes. IFM won’t do it. That’s apparent already because we’ve arrived at this point.

I think a good first step would be to ban the concept of vacation homes in this area. It is essentially just an excuse to hog up a SECOND house for your character, while also limiting someone else's options of getting their FIRST house in the area they actually roleplay in. Vacation homes are nothing but a liability to the entire community, especially considering they're unused 90% of the time or just get flipped for insane profits (or the same insane price they got it for in the first place).

    Good starting point.

  5. 31 minutes ago, Vash Baldeus said:

That would realistically solve the housing issue with Paleto. Regarding the houses there, some people own them since for ever and do not plan on selling. Moreover insane prices, there's rules that you legitimately need to own it for 6 months to actually ask whatever you want.

Regarding the suggestion, raising the pay for Paleto will somewhat cause inflation along with influx of City folk to come work. You do not want to cause inflation on the server, because what will happen is what happened on SAMP where inflation was so bad, almost all cars were over 100k, houses in Grove street went up on sale once in a while with obscene price tags compared to the location.

Property inflation is already happening and it's going to get worse. Nothing is going to stop that.

  6. Problem is that garages need a shit ton of components because their parts use twice as many components now. Garages have a hard time staying open because even with the open trucking order, they still can't get enough components to stay open more than an hour or so. They aren't exploiting anything, they are desperate to get enough crates to stay open on a consistent basis. It's not their fault that there simply aren't enough truckers to keep their components stocked. Revert the change to mechanic shops first and you'll see those orders come down because they won't need restocks so desperately.

Increasing the pay would be a bad idea. We already have people rushing through and abslutely grinding the job, this would only incentivize people to do that more. We shouldn't get people to get into trucking because they can make a ton of money (and even more by grinding it out), but instead make it a regular job that pays a regular amount but creates some cool RP opportunities. What should happen instead is this, in my opinion.

    1. Everyone should receive the $4,000/hour bonus - the timer would count if they're either actively role-playing or driving. The only condition would be to make at least a few deliveries per hour (or a number of miles, in order to also encourage delivering to businesses that are further away). Regardless of how many delieveries they make, everyone would get the same amount - this is the only way to descourage people from grinding, and instead encourage role-playing; you'd be making $4,000 regardless of whether you're doing some nice role-play and development, interacting with the warehouse, other truckers or businesses, or if you rush to make 100 delieveries. There would be no incentive.
    2. The way trucking companies should make money is by receiving the component cost or a part of it, and the other could go to the government to cover the hourly salary/bonus. Companies could then use that extra money to compete against other companies by offering employees bonuses, or to create an off-duty environment (maybe some areas or businesses, mapping, events etc.).
    3. Remove the trucking ranks. Everyone should be able to drive any vehicle they want from the get-go. It would be down to personal preference and character portrayal to choose between a Speedo or a large truck.
      • In combination with the above, there would be no difference between choosing a big rig or a small van. We'd still have some variety.
    4. Increase the amount of components per crate, so that it'd be faster to fill up a business. If no business requires components, truckers could deliver to server-owned ones.

The way the current system works is nice, it's sustainable, but it's not perfect. I believe that this (or a variant of it) would be a better fit for a heavy-roleplay server: for businesses, for truckers, for the staff team and for everyone else.

How dare you suggest something logical that makes sense. I am offended.

While you're technically not wrong in several of your points, here is why the entire force shows up when a house is being robbed: because every few house robberies, or at least an impressive amount of them, result in a massive fucking shootout where the burglars come out guns blazing and turn the place into Little Mogadishu because they don't think they can escape by just scattering like ants.

I cannot tell you how many breakins I have been to where I have needed to shoot someone while I was an LEO RPer. Hell, my first break-in I responded to, we didn't even have the house surrounded and they came out and immediately started shooting at us, no questions asked. This isn't the fault of players like yourself who just want their crackhead character to steal a TV (which I think is incredibly based) but that's why. ( Example here: https://streamable.com/7yln9y )

My reply doesn't come from a place of malice. It comes from a place of being completely fed up with the status quo. I desperately want to see a day on GTA:W where civilians can do civilian shit and have cool fun public RP without being picked off by robbers, and where criminal RPers can have their fun as well but it doesn't feel like tedium, or they don't need to wait hours on end to do anything. But this suggestion isn't that. It's counterproductive and only adds insult to injury to the most marginalized archetype on the server: the monkeys in the middle.

I have RPed both sides of the fence. I've participated in a few burglaries across two of my characters - one of whom has been to TTCF four times, once for second degree murder. In no way am I approaching this solely from the angle that 'criminals are bad' because I have been there and done that. But throwing a bone... this is more like throwing the entire skeleton. An agreeable median would be giving burglars more time to roleplay inside the properties. Having an alarm not go off due to some arbitrary system rather than actual planning and a thought out, surgical approach makes buying an alarm mostly pointless.

    1) Tier the alarms to alert security companies first (if there is one or someone online from that security company), police second. Get rid of this "reliability" crap based on how much the alarm costs.

    2) Introduce false positives.

    3) Increase timers on the alarms before anyone is alerted, so that the criminals have more time to play it out. The admin can always choose to take a different direction at their own discretion based on the quality of RP being presented during the break-in.

Boom. All this other stuff is just way over complicated.

The only active trucking company I see nowadays is IMEX.

I believe the main problem is that garages require a lot of components and they are located close to the Terminal. Regular businesses usually request 200 crates on average while garages request 10,000+ and that number goes up extremely fast too. Truckers can focus on those garages only and they won't ever run out of work while other businesses are left unattended.

One way to solve this is to increase the capacity of the trucks. Currently Speedo holds 5 crates, change it to 7, Boxville from 8 to 10, Mule from 12 to 15, Benson from 15 to 20, Pounder from 20 to 30.

That way truckers will have a legitimate chance to keep up with the amount of components garages spend and then focus on other businesses too.

This is definitely one of the core issues. The change that mechanic shops have with parts using twice as many components has created the issue of garages always needing massive amounts of components. As a result, they take precedence over any other store or business, especially with three of them in the city so close to the supply points at the docks. Why take longer deliveries for the same price when you don’t have to? That’s the trucker logic. Hell, I’ve even seen stores with bonuses get ignored because truckers can still make more money completing more deliveries to the closest mechanic shops in the same amount of time.

Other issue is that the trucking script is just plain boring. Whether or not companies create the occasional RP drivers, it’s mainly a very repetitive job with little to no interaction when you’re out on the road. You repeat the same pick up and drop off /me lines, just reworded each time to avoid going insane. People only last so long before moving on to better things.

Trucking is still very much active. The only problem Is that usually, the only trucking routes people choose are the ones that pay a little extra on top of the 250 OR the ones where the route is fairly short, so they can drive a bigger truck faster.

It's this right here. It's a race to get as many deliveries as possible so they can make more money. Most places that offer the base 250 or are too far away from the supply points won't get any deliveries unless they increase their crate prices. Places that are really far from the supply points sometimes have a hard time getting crates even with a higher crate price. People just don't want to drive that far when they can deliver to businesses right around the corner from the supply points, especially when a few of those are mechanic shops and always in need of component crates.

Back in the old dayz I used to run a Corporation and one of the companies under us was Strawberry 24/7, with their manager we put together a cool online side of the store so you could order and get groceries delivered to your home! It was really well recieved and did really well but delivery was a bit awkward and a pain because of the lack of system like this.

Obviously currently no companies are set up to deliver products to customers homes but with a mailbox it would open up this sort of opportunity for a wide range of business niches and we could even see parcel delievery services pop up which would be cool.

I dont think the feature qould be used a lot at first though, I think it would grow and become more used the older it gets and as businesses think of ways to take advantage of the new system.

It would take a bit of time to gain traction, but the creativity aspect will take over and then I think it would take off faster than lightning. This has far reaching benefits for all facets of role play. Legal, illegal and everything in between.

Totally support this idea. Just keep it simple as this suggestion lays it out, no need to make a complicated system.

What a ridiculously one sided and biased suggestion, some people will really go through great lengths to create more opportunity for criminals to grind some more for those lovely PF guns people have hidden in their houses. The whole suggestion never once takes into account that when people are not IG their character doesn't just vanish. Their characters would be in their house, they would be there; responding to the obvious sound of an alarm, or the obvious sound of someone entering their home?

    Pseudo roleplay.

It's unsurprising considering FM officially ruled that the IC population is to be RP'd as whoever is physically online. If no one is around, we are told to RP that no one is around. So in fact, the current meta is that when we log off, no one exists. Apparently if it were done any other way, it would be detrimental to criminal RP (FM's words, not mine). So it's not a surprise this is not considered under the current suggestion. In no way do I agree with this stance, but it is what it is.

  13. To whom it may concern:

I'm looking to rent a property out long-term, if possible. I prefer the house / apartment / condo to be somewhere in a safe and central part of the city. Depending on the lease terms, I will most likely rent it out long-term and in-advance for a better pricing option than simply renting it by the week. I am a reliable tenant and will keep your house clean and maintain it as necessary. If you have anything available, please don't hesitate to reach out via e-mail at [email protected] ((Forum PM)) with a location, pictures and long-term leasing options. Thank you for your time and consideration.

100% hit the nail on the head. Glad someone gets it.

  15. This all seems overly complicated. All this is going to do is turn the alarm system into another thing to grind and further encourage a grinding mentality just so people can keep a decent alarm in their house. Completely disagree with this. I'm all for revamping the system to allow for criminals who break in to have more time to enjoy the RP, but this isn't it.

Reform the break-in system and hire a sub-team that's solely dedicated to spectating break-ins in order to improve response time on break-in requests. Reform the system to allow for people to RP'ly install security systems and alarms through IC pricing dictated by IC security companies, then add this information to the /stashinfo or /pinfo for the spectating Admin to use discretion as required. Reform police response so that an army doesn't have to show up every time some small-time house robber wants to steal a few things. Add in personal items that can be stolen from a property for people to be able to turn around and sell, either script wise or to other players (TV's, stereo, jewelry, etc). This can help take the focus off of targeting houses solely for drugs or guns. Give them something else to focus on. I think this whole thing can be approached a different way without all the proposed changes that I feel are just far too complicated and unnecessary.

How does everyone feel about the state of break-ins and the system behind it? I personally think the system is extremely flawed and needs some kind of re-vamp, it shouldn't  take almost 3 hours sitting AFK outside the place you wanna rob until eventually you get bored because with 400 players it went from 13 admins on to 3. The only successful robberies I've ever seen with break-ins was when someone is up super early or late in the night or morning and "honey" happens to be on. Or when the people robbing have an admin in their faction or friends with them or something. And even with the small chance of a break-in actually getting accepted, the admin sets off the alarm in 1.5 seconds and you wasted 3 hours of your life. I mainly made this thread to see how people feel about the system and even maybe some smart dude will have an amazing idea to fix the poo-poo system. I think maybe certain admins should be accepted FOR things like break-ins and all other stuff that needs admin permissions, or a team that priorities that. s/o @Moe tho for taking ours

    also Long Live Drakeo 💯💔

I can only imagine with everything else that Admins are busy with, making time to be present during a robbery is probably not on the top of their to-do list unfortunately. It's not just to be around, but they need to be focused and paying attention to make sure RP is up to standard and verify where things may be hidden (especially when 9/10 properties have no stash info). The only two things I could come up with is one, require a /stashinfo for properties that have items hidden. Not just a guideline, but make it something that is punishable if it's not there. Put it in the rules so an Admin doesn't have to try and sort that out via their own discretion during a robbery. The other is sort of what you already suggested. Attempt to hire a sub-team and train them with the sole purpose of overseeing break-ins. This is probably the least complicated solution as it doesn't require anything besides more staff and training.

  17. Warzone or not --- in the interests of everyone's RP experience don't inject yourself into a situation, such as a shooting, that has nothing to do with you. To me, it's common courtesy. More than likely that is multiple character's stories that have been building up for quite some time that we know nothing about. If it's two rival gangs shooting at each other, let them shoot at each other and take cover like a normal human being rather than being Rambo.

Plus, why would you want to get in the middle of gangs shooting at each other? Just butt out and let it be.
