With their expertise and attention to detail, the forensic attendants work closely with law enforcement agencies. Chanel Westbrooks Sara Bartlett Sara Bartlett, Senior Forensic Attendant, shares her experience of working in the Department of Medical Examiner, saying, "As a Forensic Attendant, one of our primary responsibilities is to help determine the cause, manner, and circumstances of death. We work closely with law enforcement agencies to gather all necessary evidence and information, which we then use to compile a comprehensive report. This report is crucial to understanding the circumstances surrounding the individual's death and can help provide closure to families and loved ones." Channel Westbrooks, Forensic Attendant Bonus I, adds, "In addition to documenting the scene through photography and making an after report, we are also responsible for the transportation of the deceased to the medical examiner's office. This can often mean working in difficult conditions, including bad weather or potentially gruesome scenes. However, it is important that we approach this task with the utmost professionalism and respect for the deceased." Both Bartlett and Westbrooks agree that a key aspect of their work is the collection and preparation of evidence. "We have to be meticulous in our collection of evidence," explains Bartlett. A total of 5313 deaths were reported to the department during this time. The leading cause of death was homicide, with 4250 deaths in total. The Medical Examiner-Coroner's Department is committed to understanding and addressing the various factors that contribute to mortality in our community. We will continue to work with law enforcement, healthcare providers, and other agencies to investigate and understand the causes of death and to identify any trends or patterns. Mrs. Eiriksdottir brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, having previously served as the Chief Medical Examiner for the state of Liberty City and as a forensic pathologist for Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. In her new position, Mrs. Eiriksdottir will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the department, as well as leading the team of forensic pathologists and investigators.
