  1. I can't think of any justification as to why this should be necessary. Legal or illegal, gang members, organized crime or government agencies. It doesn't matter. We are one community in which discussions should never be exclusive to one group or the other.
  2. OK, thanks both of you @Entity and @SaintBatemanofWallStreetfor your feedback. I updated the main post to make things more clear. I've also replied below to clarify your recent points: I believe people aren't using them since we both agree there is no incentive. This suggestion brings that incentive in the form of an IC legal process & potential financial gain, relying on basic real-life economic principles. I can guarantee it will work. Going off that logic, you shouldn't implement any new feature since there will always be greedy people ready to take advantage of it. As a community we should strive towards enabling roleplay and making it attractive for players. Part of that has a financial motivation. It's just the way our brains are wired when it comes to money, even if it's virutal money. Some people will exploit it, others will use it as a driving force for their factions or as a stepping stone into more advanced areas of roleplay. I have no personal interest in this and it was brought up as a general observation on how properties are managed, having experience from other servers and having an opinion about how it can be leveraged for the server's benefit. I personally don't have time for "screenshot threads" so I would appreciate you to keep your judgemental observations to yourself. There's no hidden motive here and no self-promotion involved. Had you actually read the thread, you'd be aware of the fact no one is asking for extra money from property owners and the contractor fee should be subtracted from the price paid for the property. The end result would for property owners would be the same. Either approach doesn't make sense from an IC perspective. You either RP building the home which "exists" in the GTA5 engine, or you RP it as an existing home with a "gutted" interior - the exception being houses that already have interiors. Neither makes sense from an IC perspective, it just matters what your narrative is. (Since the house which already exists can't be built; it makes no sense, right? Then again, thousands of built houses with "gutted" interiors doesn't really make much sense either...) Realistically speaking if you buy property, even if it is 100% furnished you still need to make sure plumbing, ventilation, electricity etc is up to par. This is why I know you haven't really read the thread. The intention was never to have people RP as interior designers and move furniture around, let alone pay extra money for this suggested service. If not the previous discussion in this thread, please read the updated main post. This is what forums are for 🙂 I'm genuinely happy for the feedback as it really does help me convey this better.
  3. Thanks for that @Rybyn, good response. Keep in mind the following: 1. There's no additional fee being requested from property owners. They already pay some kind of sum to the "realtor", which is the property management admin; from this sum, the construction companies are paid. No additional charges. 2. There is some kind of RP standard for the server as a whole. If some players don't RP adequately they should be punished. Regardless of whether it's construction RP or police RP. 3. Admins shouldn't keep an eye on these players to make sure their roleplay is up to par and that's why the request was made to add a supporting ecosystem for players to utilize. This way you don't have bottlenecks controlled by limited amount of companies/players. If one doesn't cut it, there will be another to replace them. For every subpar roleplayer there will be capable ones in their stead. 4. The property team will still be in charge of assigning properties to property owners. They would then assign the IC job of making the property living-worthy to a company as a contract that can be picked up by players (via a company or via players registered as "contractors", to keep a wider variety). 5. If a current property admin says there is absolutely no place for something like this in the server, I won't argue. I'm a new player here. I raised this suggestion since as a new player (but not new to roleplaying), it is excruciatingly painful to grind for money. In a server where most houses aren't up for grabs yet, it could be a good opportunity to make use of a market in high demand for the benefit of the entire server's economy, with the benefactors being new players who can make connections while roleplaying instead of grinding their asses off in farming, fishing or garbage collection which have little-to-no RP involved in them.
  4. Good feedback @Entity. I refined things to be more clear according to your reply. This will help me edit the main post to include the major points of the idea in a clearer way. As a property owner you aren't forced to do anything. That's the point in making an IC mechanism (which you don't have to be involved in) to accommodate the real estate assignment process. They're not usable because they haven't been claimed by players, which deems them irrelevant from an IC perspective. You could roleplay at the docks, just as you can at an unclaimed house, but you can't actually make anything off them ingame. Trying to do so could count as powergaming. It's not a matter of whether they are physically there or not. If you've ever dabbed in real estate, you'd know that signing a contract and paying money for your property is the beginning of a long process which includes renovations, moving your stuff in, furnishing etc. Stuff that today, to the best of my knowledge isn't roleplayed at all. You get your house from your property admin and that's that. RP happening around your requested property, making it "ready" for your use. It could be renovations, moving your stuff inside, installing alarms or whatever you want to make of it. Basically making your house ready for living, or your business ready for operation. It might be hard for you. That doesn't mean there aren't people out there willing to do it. When there's money involved trust me the basic principles of economy will do theirs and people will find a way to get it done. It's a free market so if it isn't in one person's alley, another will take the responsibility off his hands. 24/7, money never stops working. As for RL obligations, you could say that about any kind of roleplay. If people don't want to do it, they won't engage in that kind of RP. That doesn't mean you should limit it for those who do want to engage in it. I disagree. I also believe that if you try to weasel your way out of "roleplaying the small details" you miss out on a huge chunk of roleplay opportunities and as a community it's best to strive on giving players more options to roleplay, not limit them. What do you mean, "if I want to"? What kind of incentive do I have as a regular player to go out of my way, spend more money than what I've already paid for my property just so some people can come around and type /me lines about how they're installing bathroom plumbing? The entire point of this suggestion would be that obtaining an ingame property includes an IC component which you can like or dislike, but by adding that IC component you add stimulation to the economy especially for new players where roleplaying building a house, a business etc is much more interesting than the farming/fishing grindfests currently in place. Sure people can't do it for long, but you know what? That's kind of how the construction industry works. No one's forcing anyone to do anything. Like I said, people can jump on the opportunity or ignore it. It will happen as a supporting mechanism for property acquirement IG and doesn't require the player any additional interaction if they don't want to. The end result for the property owner would be the exact same. When there's money involved you'll be surprised at how glamorous the construction world will become. That's interesting. I wasn't aware of this requirement in the past. I don't think this field should be put in the hand of so little people. The main reason why I suggested this was to give newer players the opportunity to RP for their money, actually interact with other players IC and not go through the usual grind doing scripted farming/fishing/garbage jobs. This suggestion has nothing to do with designing interiors or obtaining material for your "sweet screenshot thread". Please re-read the thread.
  5. I believe that admins should obviously still take care of the OOC "logistics" of setting up players with houses. I'm saying that in parallel, there should be an IC infrastructure that supports it to make use of the potential in this kind of roleplay. Thanks for the feedback Entity. It really helps with the positioning on this suggestion. I've answered your reply below: I don't get this. You have time to do other mediocre things like go to parties and break into cars etc but don't have time to roleplay a major event in your character's day-to-day life, like building their own house or acquiring new real estate? That's a ridiculous thing to say on a server that emphasizes roleplay. Also no one is saying this would take months. Keep in mind there are certain intricacies here that we will still need to iron out with regards to how it will happen alongside property admins. The main premise being that money paid to construction workers would be embedded in the sum you already pay to property admins OOCly. Those other intricacies (putting GOV in the picture etc) would be fit for a later stage of implementation. I get what you're saying, but I think it's petty. I mean yeah the property exteriors exist in-game, but they're not really usable, right? This suggestion is to have some IC interaction take place with the property so that it doesn't appear into the world from thin air. Regarding RP quality: Construction companies/workers can be given guidelines by their employers on what is necessary or not necessary to actually roleplay during construction projects. There can be a 1-2 hour long construction RP session after which the property would be deemed usable IC. I don't see that as a major setback at all, but to each their own. Come on. The point of this board is to suggest new things to be added to the game to make it better. The real benefit of this suggestion isn't to have construction jobs scripted in the game, but to utilize the currently 100% OOC process of obtaining real estate to have an IC component, which can be used as another driving force for the economy. Thanks @Woona. I wasn't aware when I wrote this. Anyways, I edited the main post accordingly. Let me know if there's anything else that requires changing and I'll do so.
  6. Short description: Add IC elements to the process of house & business creation Detailed description: Here's how properties are currently handled: Players find a house IG. Players request the house IG is made available to them for purchase Players select an interior to be assigned to that property In some cases, players select additional entrances/exits, garages etc to their property Property admins assign them their property based on a set criteria My suggestion is: All of the above steps would OOCly be handled by property admins the same way they are today. IC, there would be supporting systems for the process of acquiring real estate. This is a general outline of how it would work: Following OOC approval & the rquired script work made by a property admin, the property is added ingame with limited usability until it is signed off by a contractor IC. Contractors are players whom have went through a vetting process by Gov (IC) and Property admins (OOC) and will be the IC authority in charge of deeming properties as worthy for use. Contractors may hire additional workers (up to 2-3) which will be their crew. They can then assign this crew to any project currently waiting for their approval. Contractors should have a limited amount of projects they can evaluate. Once evaluated, the property can be used. Limited usability means the property owner can enter and use the property, until the contractor signs off on it by visiting the property itself, conducting an inspection and fixing anything that requires fixing. The contractor's fee is subtracted from the property price and should not be added on top of the original price. This should be viewed as money received from the government to ensure safety regulations etc are met. The criteria for property inspection should be decided on by the Government of Los Santos. Construction jobs which cost components and require actual people to build and remodel the property. Zoning, development and safety regulations made up and enforced by the Government: Outlining which areas should have priority. Properties in Richmond wouldn't have the same priority as those in Davis; though this depends entirely on the volume of properties pending approval at any given time. Quality standards every property must hold in order to be deemed as worthy for using. This can branch off into: Plumbing requirements & sewage Electrical regulations Any external constructs like porches or gazebos Swimming pool regulations Business-specific regulations The more inclined the player is to receive his house quickly, the more IC effort would be put in to make sure it actually happens. It would spawn new companies in the field of construction, property management and real estate investors on a larger scale. Commands to add: Commands for the contractor/inspector job: Government official offers a player the Contractor job - /makecontractor Acquiring the job - /contractorjob or something of the like Letting contractors hire workers, which they can then assign to houses pending confirmation - /hireworker Once work is done in an IG property, /fulfillcontract to make the property fully usable Items to add: N/A How would your suggestion improve the server? Adding an IC element to something that today is purely OOC; enabling roleplay across a new field & stimulating the economy as money paid for houses would go to this new ecosystem instead of wiped off the server. Additional information: As a new player on the server it's not very fun to grind for money and I think this entire field would be pretty cool to RP in. I think it can also bring a positive stimulation to the in-game economy, as houses aren't just "spawned" into the world and they actually support an entire IC ecosystem behind them. This is a short draft which I intend on expanding. Feel free to discuss & give your input!
  7. /pay <user> <amount> <emote> For example /pay Raj 1000 slides a wad of cash to would output Gideon slides a wad of cash to Raj to the chatlog, and would pass the money over. The emote can be optional to the /pay command, obviously. It's one feature on LSRP I liked and made heavy use of to make money transfers feel less robotic. Oh yeah and blueberry black market pls
  8. LSRP old-timer (2007-2014) here 🙂 Been in some legal factions, some illegal factions, lead some, burned some to the ground. Nice seeing some familiar names here 😄
