  1. Very few would do it they didn't have to, already have issues enough with people trying to sneak off after order their parts and having to wait a bit or complaining, as well it would eliminate any sort of reasoning to do it as a job and not a hobby, being as we only get paid while we are there. It'd gut any sort of income that'd make it a career path, even losing 50% would make it almost impossible to make a living out of. As well I could also flip the argument, it does very little for a mechanic if they don't get to actually roleplay their job. The key word there is 'niche' even you said yourself that very few people enjoy watching the roleplay being done meaning they wouldn't sit there if they didn't have to do thus taking away both the profit and roleplay from the actual mechanic and give it over to an ooc script. That example is as well slightly one sided, as you assume the other person doesn't find enjoyment out of working on the cars as a career and not just a hobby. I could sit all day the garage and work on my own stuff, doesn't mean I could make a living off it to be able to afford and do anything else. Edit: Either way I'm outie on this topic this time, obviously there are differences on both sides of the fence, but offering suggestions other than 'Just let people use the script when they want' has been out the window for the most part other than the few suggesting being able to leave the car in a que and come back for it. You make it so that anyone can just do it any time you eliminate the roleplay for the mechanic, you don't it leaves people have to wait a little to get their car modded which is realistic. The middle ground is allowing simple maintenance, more oversight on activity, and better incentives to truck and actual work. As well even if you switched to free script usage, it wouldn't change the fact that the comps won't even be there to be able to.
  2. It's a heavy roleplay server, just because they changed something down the road doesn't mean they hadn't hoped it to be that way or didn't see abuse in the way it was currently done and sought a way to fix it. Encouraging people to roleplay things out rather than just relying on a script is something a roleplay server that sets out to just remain that should do, whether people like it or not. It's a fact of convivence versus quality, just walking up to a script and using it is a mechanical thing that you can just do in GTA online as it is, having to actually roleplay out the changes is what makes it into a roleplay thing. The fact we were only open today for roughly an hour to two hours isn't our fault either? We have to deal with components that take time to get and deliver due to the lack of drivers, so it's effecting us as well. You are viewing it only from one side of the problem and not taking into consideration that people that actually have to do the roleplay work at all. So what if it's just working on an object? It's still something people like to roleplay and just because you don't find it enjoying doesn't mean that others don't. You want to enforce one side of an opinion over the other just because you don't want to have to wait for it. Go to a garage in real life and see how long it'd take them to do anything related to a car. Depending on how busy they are even getting new rims and tires could take thirty minutes to an hour. While yes, I am on the side that normal maintenance should be able to be done by some joe shmoe with a funnel and a jug of oil that doesn't mean that everyone is capable of swapping out an engine or installing a turbo. Some random officer worker or bartender won't normally do that they'd go to a mechanic to get it done unless it's something they have a drive for in which case they might have the knowledge and just maybe the tools. The fact of that matter is this discussion is about eliminating a sub section of roleplay to be more of a convince of out of character want to not have to stop what you're doing for half an hour and give someone else a chance to roleplay the things they like to do. The number of inactive garages is in issue, why are there so many inactive? Because of management doing their job with some and that is why the are up for lease again, the others is the lack of comps due to lack of trucking. The fix is simple, more oversight and more incentive for truckers to deliver and mechanics to open and it doesn't even have to be monetary. TLDRL: This discussion is about letting out of character issues rule over in character problems due to the influx of roughly forty or so cars being added within a few days apart which caused a supply issue with garages. It takes about seven thousand comps to fully upgrade a car, most garages only have up to 80k-100k in comps because they cost money, somewhere in the 100k-400k range. Fix the actual root causes of the issue which is the ooc attitude thinking some peoples time and roleplay should go over another's, management, and supply.
  3. Barely any cause most garages don't have any components, as of right now it's taken close to nine hours for us to get 10k comps, which is good for close to one and a half cars worth of mods. When you open and get flooded with fifteen plus you'll be unable to open at all for like a day or two at least. That's not to mention mechanic hotline cars, and people just randomly showing up and asking if we are open. It's a supply issue and the fact the there are currently garages up for lease. I've already suggest more oversight by admins and managers to make sure the roleplay is portrayed right, but at the same time it's not totally off limits for someone to work on a friends car, mechanic shops do this all the time in real life. The difference in making it a 24/7 is that this actually requires roleplay, where at a gas station your just walking up and buying a drink. Why gas station clerks make less in real life it requires less knowledge and skill to ring up and item and give change.
  4. Or people should lower their expectation and impatience on how long it should take to do? This can go back and forth all day long but at the end of the day it's the customers yelling about their stuff taking forever that cause it to go fast, not the other way around. I can spend hours roleplaying an engine swap if I wanted to and have the time for it. Hell I have on my car when I have nothing else to do because I enjoy the roleplay of doing. This kind of argument is what confuses me on this post, you want more realistic roleplay with garages fine? Oh wait you want less time being needed to be spend or just to do it yourself with a script and no roleplay? Those two arguments are contradictory to themselves and offer no valid solutions.
  5. With people yelling that they want their stuff done it wouldn't surprise me, not to mention when you have a four to five mechanics working and the current expectation is ten to twenty minutes per car and that's because of people wanting it done fast not the people don't want to roleplay it. That's four or five cars every ten minutes or ten every twenty.
  6. Tldr, screw over a portion of players the enjoy the roleplay that they do as a mechanic and have to deal with players constantly telling them to hurry so the masses can go brrr and continue the roleplay they enjoy to do? Either way one party is getting effected massively by any of the solutions that are being offered. This supposed to be a heavy roleplay server, with high expectations set on the roleplay involved. I fail to see why having to have your car worked on through roleplay is a bad thing? It's what you signed up for when applying to a server like this. I am pretty sure the old system was changed cause it was being abused with people upgrading their car with no roleplay what so ever. Either way no need to further waste my time trying to argue over where or not someone just be able to go beep boop and have a turbo'd car in an instant just because you don't care for the roleplay other people are doing.
  7. I believe it was changed to where you can, and if someone wants a car that's already modified there are used ones that are sold which already have everything installed. Even most script dealerships that buy used cars are all mostly modified in some way. Again it's really the fact of do we want to degrade roleplay for the ease of things when it's already been degraded to the point where I have to just spend ten to twenty minutes on someone's car? I'd rather that not be the case and with being able to do it themselves there isn't any actual oversight to if the person is properly roleplaying it or not. Even without any admins checking on us the garage I work at still vets peoples quality before we even hire them by having them work on some of our shops cars. Like I said, simple things like oil changes and stuff fine I get, but any of the bigger stuff, hell even security systems and gps. You still need some knowledge on how the cars wiring works and most the time people that do stuff like that themselves and don't know how end up draining the battery/alternator eventually in the process. I'm not in favor of making hard for someone to mod there car to what they want but I'm also not in favor of changing how the current process works. I think a better solution would be better incentives to do the work for both the truck drivers and mechanics, as well as better admin and management over watch on the leases to ensure they are active frequently and doing the proper roleplay for it and not just opening up for their friends alone or doing all of their own cars but actually opening for the public. We've been wanting to open all day but our comps just aren't there to much, which still ties into the script issue and people would still be dealing with even if they could just go up and press the buttons then drive off.
  8. That also opens another issue as I've previously stated. You'd maybe get one or two people that want to wait and are there for the roleplay. Other than that everyone would just wait for a garage to do everything themselves. There are a multitude of issues with this. The first, it'd kill a good bit of the people that play on this servers roleplay. No one would come in to get their cars done anyone, leaving people who actually do enjoy roleplaying it and aren't just there for money screwed over. It's a good portion of my roleplay and a lot of other people that I know that work at garages roleplay. It'd make several characters left with nothing to do with no more goals or things to look forward to. I enjoy what I do, I like doing the roleplay for it, and it takes what? Ten minutes of your time plus the wait for the other cars to be done. It's a heavy roleplay server so at least we aren't made to be super realistic and take days or weeks to swap an engine. The second being this is a heavy roleplay server, what sense does it make to just randomly have your car with a new engine/tune, new paint, new wheels, a turbo installed, swapped transmission in the first two minutes of buying it? You're required to roleplay everything else out why would you not be required to roleplay your car getting worked on? To save time? Then go play gta:o if you want things instant and now with nothing being required to have a car modified. Thirdly, it'd also kill some peoples jobs, we only get paid via the script when we are around and roleplaying. You make it to where people can just do it themselves only the garage gets paid. It's not like a 24/7 job where you get paid for the hours you work. We get a % of the cost of the mod which when it's just tires and maybe tint only comes out to like $200-$400ish depends on what the % is set to and how many other people are working. Again a lot of us don't just do it for money and I already explained the reason behind that. I can maybe concede to the maintenance being done yourself, cause changing oil and other fluids is simple, but replacing an engine isn't something someone can just do without the right tools and knowledge.
  9. Not really what I was saying, I enjoy doing the roleplay and the only thing overwhelming about it is the fact people cry when it takes too long which I get it's your time but it's also mine and this is what I enjoy doing on the server. You turn it to automation and you're cutting out an entire community in the server. Don't like waiting for beer at a bar? We'll just make it like a 24/7 and you can just interact with a script and get it. Don't want to wait for food a restaurant that's open? We'll just make a script menu and get rid of the waiters. It's what I get on the server to do, it is the enjoyment that I get from being on GTA:W. If things turn to just being scripted with no one needing to be around to roleplay it'd literally kill my drive for playing, I'd need a whole new character with a totally new concept. Why? No one would want to wait for the roleplay to be done anymore, lets be honest. They'd just wait till there aren't any active garages just to go up and click a few buttons and have it be done then. Yes it's a waste of time for some people, to others it's the reason they enjoy roleplaying on this server and it constitutes a good 60%-70% of what they do because it's something they like.
  10. As a person that works as a mechanic the money is nice but I also enjoy being able to work on cars in a roleplay fashion as I generally have a love for cars and the work that goes into them. The wait time is because we are required to do the proper roleplay required to replace said parts. It's not a fast thing to completely replace an engine, paint the body of a car, install a turbo, make the new manifolds, etc. These things take hours to days in real life, so simplifying it down to just ten to twenty minutes if someone wants /everything/ replaced on a car isn't that bad in the long run of things. It's not as simple as *pulls engine out and replaces the parts before putting it back in*, they want quality roleplay, it falls under the same rules as trucking where you can't just go about script wise delivering items. On a second note it's also a supply chain issue, trust me there are garages that want to be open right now but finding truckers to deliver the comps is neither fast nor easy.
